Description

TRG Supercolor Shoe Paint Spray – Dark Brown (301) – 150ml – opaque aerosol leather dye for a complete dark brown recolour

When a pair of shoes needs a full change of colour rather than a touch up, a dark brown shoe paint spray is the fastest way to get an even finish. TRG Supercolor is an opaque aerosol leather dye: you spray it on in thin coats, it dries flexible, and it covers the old colour completely instead of tinting it.

The advantage of an aerosol over a bottle and brush is coverage. There are no brush marks, no patchy edges and no sponge streaks, and awkward areas like the flex creases and the seam around the welt come out as evenly as the flat panels. For anyone recolouring a whole pair, that is the difference between a professional-looking result and an obvious home job.

Because the paint is elastic, it moves with the upper. That matters enormously on shoes: an ordinary spray paint from a hardware shop will craze across the vamp within days, while this stays put. It works on smooth leather, coated leather, synthetic uppers, vinyl and canvas, so mixed-material trainers are fair game too.

One 150ml can is enough for about one pair of shoes, or roughly half a square metre of surface. Dark brown is one of the most useful shades in the range – ideal for reviving faded boots, covering scuffed toe caps or taking a tired tan pair down to a deeper, richer brown.

Why choose TRG Supercolor in dark brown?

  • Completely opaque. This is a covering dye, not a tint. It hides the old colour, so you can move from a light shade to dark brown in two or three coats.
  • No brush marks. The aerosol lays down a fine, even film across panels, seams and creases, which is very hard to achieve with a brush or a sponge.
  • Flexible film. Formulated for footwear, so it bends with the leather instead of cracking along the flex lines the way household paints do.
  • Works on more than leather. Smooth and coated leather, synthetic uppers, vinyl and canvas all take the dye, which makes it a genuine option for trainers and fashion boots.
  • Sensible coverage. A 150ml can covers around one pair of shoes or half a square metre, so you know exactly what to order for the job.
  • Part of a huge colour range. TRG offer this paint in dozens of shades, so matching a bag, a belt or a second pair later on is straightforward.

How to use TRG Supercolor shoe paint spray

  1. Clean the shoes thoroughly, then strip the old finish with a leather cleaner or conditioner so the dye can key into the surface. Let them dry completely.
  2. Fill the shoes with paper or shoe trees, and mask the soles, the eyelets and any part you do not want to paint with tape. Work outdoors or in a very well ventilated space.
  3. Shake the can hard for at least a minute, then test the spray on newspaper to check the pattern and the shade.
  4. Spray thin coats from about 20cm away, keeping your hand moving. Two or three thin coats always look better than one heavy one.
  5. Let each coat dry before adding the next, then leave the finished pair to cure fully away from any heat source before wearing them.

Frequently asked questions

Can I spray a light shoe dark brown?

Yes, and that is where this paint really earns its keep. Because it is opaque, going darker takes two or three thin coats. Going the other way, from dark to light, is also possible with this range but needs more coats and more patience.

Do I have to strip the old finish first?

You should. Factory finishes, wax and silicone all stop the dye bonding, and that is what causes flaking a fortnight later. A wipe over with a leather cleaner until the cloth stops lifting colour is the best investment you can make in the result.

Will the paint crack when the shoe bends?

Not if you build it up in thin coats and let each one dry. The formula is elastic and made for footwear. Cracking happens when the film is too thick, or when it has been applied over an unprepared surface.

Can I use it on trainers?

You can. Smooth synthetic panels, vinyl and canvas all take the dye well. Mask the midsole carefully, and be aware that mesh and knit areas will feel slightly stiffer once painted.
