Description
TRG Supercolor Shoe Paint Spray – Black (317) – 150ml – change the colour of a whole pair in an afternoon
There comes a point where a pair of shoes is structurally fine but the colour has had it: faded, blotchy, or simply not what you want any more. A black shoe paint spray is the fastest way to start again, and TRG Supercolor is the aerosol I trust for the job.
It is an opaque, flexible paint made specifically for footwear, so it moves with the leather instead of cracking at the flex line. Because it comes as an aerosol rather than a bottle, coverage is far more even than you can achieve by hand – no brush marks, no streaks.
The other advantage is direction of travel. Most dyes only take a shoe from light to dark. Supercolor is opaque enough to work either way, so a pale pair can go black and a dark pair can go lighter, although lighter shades will need more coats.
It suits smooth leather and synthetic leather, and it is equally at home on bags and jackets. One 150 ml can covers about a pair of shoes, or roughly half a square metre, which is a realistic guide when you are planning a project.
Why choose TRG Supercolor shoe paint spray?
- Even, professional coverage. An aerosol lays down a consistent film with no brush marks, which is very hard to match with a bottle and a dauber.
- Flexible when cured. The paint is formulated to bend with the shoe, so it survives the flex line across the vamp instead of crazing.
- Opaque both ways. Unlike most penetrating dyes, it can take a light shoe darker or a dark shoe lighter, given enough thin coats.
- Leather and synthetics alike. It works on smooth leather and synthetic leather, and on bags and jackets as well as footwear.
- Quick to work with. It dries fast between coats, so a full recolour is comfortably an afternoon job rather than a weekend one.
- No finishing coat needed. Once dry the finish is complete. There is no separate sealer or top coat to apply.
How to use TRG Supercolor shoe paint spray
- Brush the shoes to remove dirt and grit, then strip the old finish with a leather preparer or cleaner so the paint has a key to grip. This is the step most people skip and most regret.
- Let the shoes dry fully. Mask the soles, edges and any hardware with tape, remove the laces and stuff the shoes with paper to hold their shape.
- Work outdoors or in a very well ventilated space over old newspaper, and shake the can thoroughly.
- Spray thin, even coats from about 20 cm away, keeping your hand moving. Two or three thin coats beat one heavy one every time.
- Let each coat dry before the next, then leave the finished shoes to cure fully before you remove the tape and wear them.
A realistic word about coverage: one can does roughly a pair of shoes. If you are recolouring boots, or taking something dark to a much lighter shade, buy two cans so you are not left waiting halfway through the job.

Frequently asked questions
Do I really need to clean the leather first?
Yes, and I would say it is the single most important step. Wax, polish and factory finish all stop paint from bonding, and paint that has not bonded will flake at the creases within weeks. A leather preparer or a good cleaner takes ten minutes and doubles the life of the job.
Will it crack when I walk?
Not if you build it up in thin coats. The paint is elastic once cured and designed for shoes. Cracking comes from thick coats, from spraying over a finish that was never cleaned off, or from wearing the shoes before the paint has fully hardened.
Can I go from black to a light colour?
You can, but plan for it. Supercolor is opaque, so light over dark is possible, and it simply takes more thin coats and a second can. Going dark over light, such as black over beige, is much quicker.
Is it safe on trainers and synthetic uppers?
Yes, it is made for both leather and synthetic leather. Test a hidden area first on unusual materials, and keep it off mesh and knit panels, where a flexible paint made for fabric will serve you far better.
