TRG Suede and Nubuck Renovator Spray Medium Brown 139 – colour back, rain out
Brown suede is wonderful right up until the moment the sun and the pavement get to it. The toes go pale, the sides look dusty, and no amount of brushing brings the depth back. A renovator spray is the quickest, easiest fix there is, and this one does two jobs at once.
TRG is the professional label from the Tarrago group in Barcelona, and their renovator is a proper 250ml aerosol rather than a small pump bottle. That size matters: suede drinks product, and a mean little bottle runs out halfway through the second boot. This one comfortably does several pairs.
The spray replenishes the colour in the nap, nourishes the material so it stays soft and flexible, and leaves behind a water-repellent barrier that keeps rain and light stains at bay. Importantly it does all that while keeping the suede breathable, so your feet stay comfortable and the material keeps its character.
This medium brown suede renovator, shade 139, is the classic desert boot and Chelsea boot tone. It is also tested for use over membranes such as Gore-Tex, so your walking boots are safe with it.
Why choose the TRG Suede and Nubuck Renovator Spray?
- Colour and protection in one can. You revive the faded shade and waterproof the suede in the same ten minutes. Two jobs, one product, one afternoon and it is done.
- An aerosol reaches the whole nap. A fine, even mist gets right into the pile in a way that a sponge or a dauber never manages, so you avoid the patchy, blotchy look that ruins a rushed job.
- A generous 250ml can. Enough for several pairs of shoes or a couple of pairs of tall boots. You are not rationing the spray and ending up with an uneven finish.
- It keeps the suede soft and breathable. The formula nourishes the fibres rather than gluing them together, so the nap stays velvety and the material still lets air through.
- Safe over waterproof membranes. Tested and recommended for footwear with membranes such as Gore-Tex, so walking boots and outdoor shoes are fair game.
- Works on more than suede. Nubuck, velour leather and microfibre all respond to it, which covers most of the soft-finish footwear in a normal wardrobe.
How to use the TRG Suede and Nubuck Renovator Spray
- Brush the whole shoe with a suede brush to lift the nap and remove dust. Clean off any stains or salt marks first and let the shoes dry naturally away from direct heat.
- Work outdoors or in a well-ventilated room, and put newspaper down. Shake the can thoroughly for at least half a minute.
- Hold the can about 20cm from the shoe and spray in light, sweeping passes, keeping the can moving so no one area gets soaked. Cover the whole shoe evenly, including the tongue and the heel.
- Let the shoes dry for at least thirty minutes, ideally longer, somewhere cool and airy. Do not put them near a radiator, as heat hardens suede.
- Brush the nap up again with a suede brush to restore the soft velvety texture. Apply a second light coat if the colour still looks uneven.
Always test on a hidden area such as the inside of the heel first, especially on pale or unusual shades. And spray both shoes of a pair together so the finish matches.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a renovator spray and a suede dye?
A renovator refreshes the colour you already have and protects the material, and it is quick and forgiving. A dye permanently changes the colour and can take a shoe from light to dark, but it is a bigger, more careful job. For fading, use the renovator.
Will it make my suede stiff or shiny?
Not if you apply it in light passes. Stiffness comes from soaking the material. Sprayed properly and brushed up afterwards, the suede stays soft and matt.
Can I use it on walking boots?
Yes, and it is one of the better choices for them because it is tested over waterproof membranes. It will restore the colour on nubuck walking boots and add useful water repellency for the hills.
How often should I reapply?
For boots in regular winter use, once or twice a season is usually right. If water has stopped beading on the surface, that is your cue to spray again.
