TRG Navy Blue Satin Dye 117 – 50ml Satin Shoe Dye with Brush and Sponge — give bridal and evening shoes a whole new life in deep navy

A pair of satin shoes usually gets worn once. They come out of the box for a wedding or a black tie evening, they go back in, and there they stay in ivory or pale pink, too pretty to throw out and too specific to wear again. Dyeing them is how you get them back into circulation.

This navy blue satin dye is made by TRG for exactly that job. Satin is a woven fabric, not leather, so it needs a dye that penetrates the fibres rather than a cream that sits on a surface. The pigments here are strong, they soak in, and once dry the colour is water-resistant, which matters if the evening turns damp.

Navy is the most useful shade in the range for this. It is dark enough to cover most pale satins in a couple of coats, it reads as smart rather than costume, and it goes with far more of a wardrobe than the original ivory ever did. Bridesmaids’ shoes in particular come back into life beautifully in navy.

The kit comes with a brush and a sponge, so you have both tools you need. The brush handles the seams and the join at the sole, the sponge covers the open areas evenly. It also works on satin handbags and clutches, which is worth knowing if you want a matching set.

Why choose the TRG navy blue satin dye?

  • Made for satin, not leather – Satin is a woven fabric with its own way of taking colour. A dye formulated for it penetrates the fibres and stays put, where a leather product would simply sit on top and flake.
  • Strong pigment, deep result – The colour goes on rich and even, and navy has enough depth to cover ivory, pale pink and champagne satin without a dozen coats.
  • Water-resistant once dry – After the full curing time the colour is fixed and watertight, so a rain shower on the way into the venue will not undo your work.
  • Brush and sponge included – The brush gets into the seams and the sole join, the sponge spreads an even coat over the open panels. No need to buy anything extra.
  • Works on bags as well as shoes – Satin clutches, handbags and accessories take the same dye, so you can put together a matching set from things you already own.
  • Far cheaper than buying again – A 50ml bottle costs a fraction of a new pair of occasion shoes, and it turns a one-wear item into something you will actually reach for.

How to use the TRG navy blue satin dye

  1. Pack the soft uppers with tissue paper so the shoes hold their shape while you work and the fabric stays taut.
  2. Make sure the satin is clean and dry, and mask off any trim, heels or soles you want to keep in the original finish.
  3. Start with the brush on the seams and the area right next to the sole. These are the spots that show if they are missed, so do them first while your hand is steady.
  4. Soak the sponge and spread the dye evenly across the open areas of the shoe. Work steadily and do not pause halfway: dye the shoe in one go so there is no visible join.
  5. Apply further coats if you want more depth of colour, letting each one settle before the next.
  6. Leave the shoes to dry for 24 hours at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. After that the colour is fixed and water-resistant, and they are ready to wear.

Frequently asked questions

Can I dye dark satin shoes navy blue?

Navy will cover most pale and mid tones without trouble, but it will not lift a black or a deep burgundy. Dye works from light towards dark, so ivory, champagne, pale pink and pale grey satins are the ideal starting points. Anything already darker than navy is best left alone.

Will the colour rub off on my feet or the floor?

Not once it has cured. The 24 hour drying period is what fixes the dye into the fibres, and rushing it is the single most common cause of transfer. Give it the full day at room temperature, not on a radiator, and the finish will be water-resistant and stable.
