TRG Easy Dye 113 Green – bring faded leather and canvas back to life
Some of the most satisfying jobs in my shop are the simple ones: a tired pair of shoes or a much-loved bag that has gone dull and scuffed, brought right back to life in an afternoon. TRG Easy Dye Green is how I do it. It is a proper dye rather than a polish, which means it recolours the material instead of just sitting on top of it — and unlike many dyes, it works on smooth leather, synthetic leather and canvas, so it is brilliant for trainers and plimsolls as well as smart shoes. It is ideal for reviving faded green shoes, boots and bags, or for adding a smart splash of colour to a lighter pair.
This green is a rich, classic mid-green. What I really like about Easy Dye is the clever double-sided sponge that comes in the pack: one side gently roughens the surface so the colour keys in properly, and the other applies the dye smoothly and evenly. The formula is water-based and solvent-free, so it is kinder to use at home, and once it has cured you do not need any separate lacquer or finish — the green colour is durable and wear-resistant on its own.
Why choose TRG Easy Dye 113 Green?
- True recolouring, not just polish — the deep green pigment bonds with the material, so faded green leather and canvas is recoloured to a rich, even shade rather than briefly masked.
- Works on leather and canvas — smooth leather, synthetic leather and canvas can all be dyed with the same bottle, so it is ideal for trainers, plimsolls, shoes and bags.
- Water-based and solvent-free — a more pleasant formula to work with at home, with no harsh solvent smell.
- Double-sided sponge included — one side preps the surface, the other applies the colour neatly, so you get a professional finish without brushes or spray gear.
- No finish needed — once cured the green colour is flexible and hard-wearing, so it will not crack, peel or fade with normal wear.
- Economical — a little goes a long way, so a single 25ml bottle usually covers several pairs or a couple of larger items.
How to use TRG Easy Dye 113 Green
- Clean the item thoroughly and let it dry completely — any dirt or grease left on the surface will stop the dye taking evenly.
- Test the colour on a hidden area first, such as the inside of the tongue, so you are happy with the shade.
- Lightly roughen the surface with the prep side of the sponge, then shake the bottle well.
- Apply a thin, even coat of green dye with the sponge, working in one direction.
- Let each coat dry for around 30–60 minutes, then apply a second (or third) thin coat for full, even coverage — thin coats always beat one thick layer.
- Leave the item to cure fully for 24 hours before wearing, and keep it dry during that time.

Frequently asked questions
Can I dye lighter shoes green with this?
Yes. Green works well over lighter shades such as cream, pale grey or a faded green. Since dye only adds colour, you can go from light to green but not from a darker shade to a lighter one, so pick a lighter or already-green pair to start with.
Is it suitable for canvas as well as leather?
It is. Easy Dye is designed for smooth leather, synthetic leather and canvas, so green canvas trainers, plimsolls and leather shoes all take the colour well. Just clean and dry them first, then apply in thin, even coats.
Do I need a lacquer or finish afterwards?
No. Once the dye has fully cured it is durable and wear-resistant on its own, so no separate lacquer is needed. If you like, you can buff smooth leather with a matching shoe cream for extra shine, but on canvas it is ready to wear as it is.
