Description
TRG Easy Dye 110 Russet – Leather, Canvas and Synthetic Shoe Dye 25ml – a rich reddish-brown that revives leather and canvas with warmth
Russet is a gorgeous, warm reddish-brown – think ripe conker, autumn chestnut and old-school country boots. TRG Easy Dye 110 Russet lets you bring that rich, characterful colour to smooth leather, synthetic leather and canvas, whether you are reviving a faded pair of brogues or giving plain shoes a deeper, more interesting tone.
I reach for Russet whenever a customer wants a bit more depth and warmth than a plain brown. It is water-based and solvent-free, comes with the handy double-sided sponge, and covers so well that scuffs and worn edges simply disappear under a couple of thin coats. The result is a rich, even finish that will not crack or rub off.
Why choose TRG Easy Dye 110 Russet?
- A rich, reddish-brown tone – a warm chestnut colour with real character, perfect for adding depth to brown leather and canvas.
- Water-based and solvent-free – a kinder, low-odour formula that is safer to use at home, with none of the harsh fumes you get from old-fashioned spirit dyes.
- Dyes leather, synthetic leather and canvas – one little pot handles smooth leather shoes, faux-leather bags and canvas trainers, so it is brilliant for mixed-material footwear.
- Handy double-sided sponge included – one side gently keys the surface so the dye grips, the other lays the colour down evenly, so you get a neat finish with no extra brushes to buy.
- Covers scuffs and worn patches – the high pigment load hides scrapes, tide-marks and faded areas, bringing tired shoes back to life instead of sending them to the bin.
- Flexible finish that moves with the leather – once dry it will not crack, peel or rub off in normal wear, so your refreshed shoes keep looking smart for months.
How to use TRG Easy Dye Russet
- Wipe the shoes clean and remove any dirt, polish or grease with a little rubbing alcohol or a leather de-greaser, then let them dry.
- Take the rougher side of the included sponge and gently key the surface, so the dye has something to grip.
- Mask off soles, stitching and any parts you want to keep clear, and stuff the shoes with paper to hold their shape.
- Using the smooth side of the sponge, apply the dye in thin, even coats, working in one direction for a streak-free look.
- Let each coat dry for around an hour, then build up two or three thin layers until you reach the depth of colour you want.
- Leave the final coat to cure for a few hours, then buff gently with a soft cloth. I like to finish with a matching TRG shoe cream to feed the leather and lock in the shine.

Frequently asked questions
What does Russet look like?
Russet is a warm reddish-brown, somewhere between chestnut and mahogany. It has a lovely conker-like glow that looks fantastic on brogues, boots and satchels, and it adds far more character than a flat, everyday brown.
Can I dye black or dark brown shoes russet?
Because dye deepens colour rather than lightening it, Russet works best over tan, light brown or faded leather. Over a genuinely dark brown or black shoe you would not see the reddish tone come through, so I would keep this one for lighter, mid-brown pairs.
Do I need a separate lacquer or topcoat?
No, and that is one of the things I love about it. TRG Easy Dye sets to a hard-wearing, flexible finish on its own, so there is no fiddly finisher to buy. If you want a little extra water resistance I would simply add a matching TRG shoe cream or a spray protector once the dye has fully cured.
