TRG Dark Green Nubuck Renovator Spray 133 – Suede and Nubuck Colour Reviver 250ml – bring faded green suede and nubuck back to life
Green suede is a wonderful thing right up until it fades. Because the shade is unusual, there is no hiding a pale toe cap or a sun-bleached vamp, and a plain protector spray will not put the colour back. What you need is a renovator, which carries pigment as well as protection and works across the whole surface in one even pass.
TRG have been in leather care since 1940, and this is their suede and nubuck renovator in a 250ml aerosol. Shade 133 is a deep dark green. The spray revives the colour of suede, nubuck and microfibre, protects against moisture and, importantly, does not affect breathability, which is why it is tested and recommended for footwear and apparel membranes such as Gore-Tex.
Why choose the TRG Dark Green Nubuck Renovator Spray?
- Colour and protection together. One pass revives the shade and lays down a water-repellent layer, so you are not treating the same pair twice with two different cans.
- Safe over a membrane. It does not affect breathability and is tested and recommended for membranes such as Gore-Tex, so your waterproof walking boots keep venting as the maker intended.
- Covers microfibre too. As well as suede and nubuck it works on microfibre, which is what a great many modern trainers and vegan boots are actually made of.
- Even coverage from an aerosol. A spray reaches the whole upper at once, including the awkward areas around the eyelets and the heel counter, without the streaking a sponge applicator can leave on a large panel.
- A proper 250ml can. That is a generous size for an aerosol. Expect several full treatments from one can, which works out well for a pair of boots you intend to keep for years.
- More than twenty shades. The TRG renovator range runs to over twenty colours, so dark green sits alongside enough neighbouring shades to find a close match for most unusual uppers.
How to use the TRG Dark Green Nubuck Renovator Spray
- Brush the shoes down thoroughly with a suede or nubuck brush to lift the nap and remove all dust and dried mud.
- Deal with stains first using a suede cleaner. A renovator refreshes colour, it does not remove dirt, and spraying over a mark simply preserves it.
- Shake the can well and test on a hidden area, such as the inside of the heel, to check the shade before you cover the whole shoe.
- Spray evenly from a distance of about twenty centimetres, keeping the can moving so no single area takes a heavy dose. Work in a well-ventilated space.
- Let the shoes dry for around thirty minutes, at room temperature and away from any direct heat source.
- Brush the nap up again with a suede brush for a perfect finish, and add a second light coat if the colour is still uneven.
My tip from behind the counter
Take the pair outside or into the garage, and put newspaper down well beyond where you think the spray will land. Aerosol renovators drift further than people expect, and dark green pigment on a cream kitchen floor is not a happy afternoon. Two light passes always beat one heavy one, and be sure to spray the tongue and the collar as well, since those are the areas that fade first and get missed most often.

Frequently asked questions
Will it make my boots fully waterproof?
It protects against moisture and greatly improves how the suede handles rain and damp, but it is a water-repellent treatment rather than a waterproof membrane. For sustained wet weather, add a dedicated impregnating spray once this has dried.
Can I use it on Gore-Tex lined walking boots?
Yes. TRG state that it does not affect breathability and that it is tested and recommended for footwear and apparel membranes such as Gore-Tex, so lined boots keep working properly.
My boots are olive rather than dark green. Will it work?
It will deepen and unify an olive upper rather than match it precisely, since renovator sprays tint the existing nap. If you would rather not shift the tone at all, a neutral renovator is the safer choice.
