Description

Tarrago Suede and Nubuck Dabber Dark Brown 006 – bring faded suede back to life, exactly where it needs it.

Suede and nubuck almost never fade evenly. What actually happens is that the toe box goes pale, the heel counter rubs light, and the rest of the boot still looks perfectly good. Spraying the whole shoe to fix two worn patches is overkill, and it is why so many people give up on a favourite pair. This dark brown suede dabber is the precise answer: a 75ml bottle with a sponge applicator built into the cap, so you can put colour exactly where it has gone and nowhere else.

Tarrago makes this in Spain on a water-based formula with a synthetic polymer and a vegetable oil. That combination matters more than it sounds. The polymer carries the pigment and holds it in the nap, while the vegetable oil keeps the fibres soft rather than crusty. Just as importantly, the finished treatment does not block the material, so breathable and waterproof membranes carry on doing their job. Tarrago tests the formula specifically for that.

Why choose the Tarrago suede and nubuck dabber?

  • Spot repair, not a full respray. The sponge head lets you treat a scuffed toe or a rubbed heel on its own. You use a fraction of the product and you keep the natural variation in the rest of the shoe.
  • Water-based and kind to the nap. The vegetable oil in the formula keeps suede fibres soft and moving, so treated areas do not end up stiff or shiny.
  • Membrane and breathability safe. Tested for breathable and waterproofing materials, which makes it a sensible choice for walking boots as well as town shoes.
  • Rich dark brown that blends. Shade 006 is a true dark brown rather than a black-brown, so it settles into most chocolate and espresso suedes without leaving an obvious patch.
  • Works well beyond footwear. Handbags, suede jackets, gloves and belts all take it happily. Anywhere the nap has rubbed pale, this will help.

How to use the Tarrago suede and nubuck dabber

  1. Brush first. Take a suede brush or a crepe rubber block over the whole surface to lift dust, grit and any flattened nap. Colour applied over dirt looks exactly like colour applied over dirt.
  2. Test somewhere hidden. The inside of the heel or the tongue is ideal. Every batch of suede takes colour slightly differently.
  3. Shake the bottle hard. Give it a good twenty seconds so the pigment is properly dispersed through the liquid.
  4. Prime the sponge. Press the applicator against a piece of scrap card until the sponge is damp but not dripping.
  5. Dab, do not scrub. Work the sponge over the faded area with light pressure, feathering outwards into the surrounding suede so there is no hard edge.
  6. Let it dry for about 40 minutes. Somewhere cool and airy, well away from radiators. Heat is what makes suede go hard.
  7. Brush the nap back up. A final brush with a suede brush lifts the fibres and returns that soft, velvety texture. Add a second light coat if the colour needs more depth.

Frequently asked questions

Will it darken my suede more than I want?

It can if you go in heavy-handed, so build it up. One light dab, let it dry fully, then judge the colour. Suede always looks darker when wet and lightens noticeably as it dries. Two thin coats give you a far more natural result than one wet one.

Can I turn light suede into dark brown with this?

Partly. It is a colour restorer rather than a dye, so it is at its best refreshing a dark brown that has faded. Going from beige to dark brown across a whole shoe is a job for a proper suede dye, and even then the result is permanent and one-directional.

Does it make suede waterproof?

No, and that is not what it is for. Once the colour has dried and you have brushed the nap back up, finish with a suede protector spray. Colour first, protection second – that order matters.
