Tarrago Ochre Suede Dabber 008 – 75ml Colour Reviver for Suede and Nubuck — bring warm ochre suede back from faded to fresh
Ochre is a lovely shade on suede, and it is also one of the first to fade. Sunlight, rain and everyday scuffing pull the warmth out of the nap until the shoes look tired and patchy, usually at the toe and along the outer edge where they take the most punishment. That is exactly where this ochre suede dabber earns its keep.
The Tarrago dabber is a 75ml bottle with a sponge head built into the neck. You press it against the leather, the sponge fills with colour, and you work it into the nap. Because you control where the colour goes, you can treat one faded patch on a boot without repainting the whole thing, or go over the entire upper for a full refresh.
This is a colour reviver rather than a heavy dye. It renews the tone, feeds the suede and helps it shrug off water and dirt, all while leaving the open fibre structure soft and matt. Suede should look like suede afterwards, not like it has been varnished, and that is the balance Tarrago have struck here.
One bottle goes a long way. Tarrago reckon on roughly three to five pairs of average sized shoes per 75ml, so unless you have a wardrobe full of ochre suede this will last you several seasons. At £8.99 it is a great deal cheaper than replacing a pair of boots you still like.
Why choose the Tarrago ochre suede dabber?
- Targeted colour where you need it – The sponge head lets you treat a faded toe, a scuffed heel counter or a whole upper. You are not committed to recolouring the entire shoe just to fix one worn patch.
- Keeps the nap soft and matt – The formula is made for the open fibre structure of suede and nubuck, so the material stays supple and velvety instead of going stiff or shiny.
- Feeds as well as tints – Suede dries out just like smooth leather does. This puts moisture and colour back at the same time, which keeps the fibres flexible and less likely to crack at the flex points.
- Adds water and dirt resistance – A treated nap sheds a shower and light dirt far better than a bare, dried out one, which means fewer marks to deal with next time.
- Generous coverage – At roughly three to five pairs per 75ml bottle, the cost per pair is pennies, and the screw cap means what you do not use keeps perfectly well until next season.
- Works on more than shoes – Ochre suede bags, jackets, gloves and boot uppers all respond to the same treatment. If it is suede or nubuck and it has faded, this will help.
How to use the Tarrago ochre suede dabber
- Brush the shoes thoroughly with a suede brush to lift out dust and raise the nap. Any dirt left in the fibres will trap colour unevenly.
- If they are properly grubby, clean them with a suede cleaner first and let them dry naturally, away from radiators, before you go any further.
- Shake the bottle vigorously. The pigment settles, and a lazy shake is the usual reason people end up with a patchy result.
- Press the sponge head against a hidden spot first, such as the inside heel, and check the shade against the rest of the shoe. Ochre varies from pair to pair.
- Working in even, sweeping strokes, press gently so the sponge releases colour and spread it over the whole panel. Keep the coverage consistent rather than soaking one area.
- Leave the shoes to dry for around 40 minutes at room temperature, then brush the nap up again with a suede brush to restore that soft, even finish. Add a second light coat if the colour needs more depth.

Frequently asked questions
Will it change the colour of my suede completely?
No. A dabber like this revives and deepens the colour that is already there rather than covering it. It works from light towards dark, so it will bring faded ochre back to a rich ochre, but it will not turn dark brown suede into ochre. For a genuine colour change you want a suede dye instead.
Does it leave suede shiny?
Not if you brush it afterwards. The formula dries matt, and running a suede brush over the nap once it is dry lifts the fibres back up so the finish stays velvety. It is the brushing step that people skip, and it is the one that makes the difference.
