Tarrago Beige Renovator Spray 030 – 250ml for Suede and Nubuck – colour back into beige suede before the nap has worn out

Beige suede greys out long before it wears out. It is the palest shade in most ranges, so the sun bleaches it and every shower of rain lifts a little more pigment out of the nap, and after two winters a pair of beige desert boots look tired even though the leather underneath is perfectly sound. The leather has plenty of life left; the colour simply has not.

This is the fix. Tarrago 030 is a fine pigment spray in a 250ml aerosol, formulated for suede and nubuck rather than for smooth leather, and it lays an even film of beige colour across the whole surface without matting the nap down. The aerosol is the point: a brush leaves streaks on suede, and a spray does not.

One canister covers several pairs comfortably, and the nozzle keeps spraying cleanly down to the last of it.

Why choose this tarrago beige renovator spray?

  • An aerosol gives you the even coat a brush never will. Suede shows every stroke, so anything applied by hand tends to leave tide marks along the edges. A fine mist from twenty-five centimetres away lands as a uniform layer. Twenty-five centimetres feels further away than most people expect, and it is the distance that matters most.
  • It recolours rather than merely refreshes. There is real pigment in this canister, so it covers the sun-bleached patches across the toe and the pale bloom along the quarters, not just the general dullness. Two light passes will bring a badly faded boot back into line.
  • The nap stays soft. The whole risk with colouring suede is ending up with a stiff, crusty surface that has lost its texture. Light coats and a brush afterwards keep the fibres standing up and moving. It should still feel like suede when you have finished.
  • It suits suede and nubuck equally. Nubuck is simply a finer nap on the grain side, and it takes the same treatment. The only difference is that nubuck needs an even lighter hand, because the shorter fibres show a heavy coat sooner.
  • Beige is the shade you cannot buy on the high street. Black and brown suede sprays are everywhere; a proper beige is not. Having the right one means you are not tempted to go a shade darker and lose the colour you liked.
  • It gives a little water resistance back too. The film left behind helps rain bead rather than soak straight into the nap. It is not a substitute for a dedicated protector, but it buys you time on a wet walk to the station. Reproof properly with a suede protector once the colour has dried and you get the real weather resistance back.

How to use the Tarrago Beige Renovator Spray 030 – 250ml for Suede and Nubuck

Clean and dry the suede first, then spray in light passes from a sensible distance and brush the nap up once it has dried. Rushing this with one heavy coat is the only way to get it wrong.

  1. Brush the suede all over with a crepe or brass suede brush to lift the nap and shift loose dirt.
  2. Work on any greasy marks with a suede rubber before you spray, because colour will not hide them.
  3. Mask the sole and any smooth leather trim with low-tack tape.
  4. Shake the canister for a good thirty seconds and test it on the inside of the tongue.
  5. Spray in even sweeps from about twenty-five centimetres, keeping the can moving the whole time.
  6. Let it dry for a couple of hours, brush the nap up, and add a second light coat if it needs one.

My tip as a shoe specialist

Do both shoes on the same day, even if only one looks faded. Suede colour drifts so gradually that you stop noticing it, and if you spray only the worse of the pair you will find yourself staring at a mismatch in daylight a week later. It costs you five extra minutes and one more pass of the canister. The other habit worth having is spraying outdoors or in the garage with the door open, because a fine pigment mist settles on everything within a metre and beige dust on a dark floor is very visible indeed.

Frequently asked questions

Will it come off on my trousers?

Not once it is properly dry. Give it the full two hours, brush the nap up afterwards, and any loose surface pigment goes with the brush rather than onto your clothes. Skipping the brushing is what causes the odd transfer people complain about.

Can I use it on suede that has gone patchy rather than faded?

Yes, and that is where it earns its keep. Clean the patches with a suede rubber first so the pigment lands on the same surface everywhere, then build the colour in two light coats rather than trying to blot out the marks in one.

Does it work on nubuck trainers?

It does, provided the panels are genuine nubuck or suede. Mask the midsole and any mesh carefully first, because the pigment will happily settle on both and it is far harder to remove than to prevent.
