Tarrago Air Force Blue Suede Renovator Spray 058 – colour and weather protection in one can
Suede fades. It is the nature of the material: the nap is made of fine open fibres, and sunlight, rain and brushing slowly take the colour out of them. This air force blue suede renovator spray puts the shade back and waterproofs the leather in the same pass.
Tarrago is a Spanish shoe care house with a very deep colour range – this renovator alone is made in more than twenty shades, and 058 Air Force Blue is the soft, slightly greyed mid-blue that so many suede trainers, desert boots and loafers are made in.
What makes a renovator different from a plain dye is that it does two things at once. The pigments refresh the colour, while the water-repellent element protects against rain and stains – and crucially, the leather stays breathable, so your shoes do not turn into plastic bags.
One 250ml aerosol will treat several pairs. I personally keep a can for the start of autumn: one pass over last winter’s boots and they look like they have just come out of the box.
Why choose the Tarrago suede renovator in Air Force Blue?
This is the product I hand people who say their suede has “gone flat”. It is quick, it is even, and it is far more forgiving than a liquid dye.
- Colour and waterproofing together. You refresh the shade and rebuild the water repellency in one application, which saves you a second product and a second drying time.
- Even coverage from an aerosol. A spray reaches into the nap far more evenly than a sponge or a dabber, so you avoid the dark patches that give a home job away.
- Stays breathable. The formula replaces the natural oils in the nap without sealing the leather, so your shoes keep venting moisture as they should.
- More than twenty shades. Tarrago’s range means you can match an unusual blue instead of going a shade too dark – 058 sits neatly between navy and mid-blue.
- Suede, nubuck and microfibre. It works on classic suede and nubuck as well as modern microfibre uppers, so trainers, boots and bags are all fair game.
- Generous 250ml can. Enough for several pairs and for regular top-ups through a wet British winter.
How to use the Tarrago suede renovator spray
Work outdoors or in a well-ventilated room, and give yourself half an hour before you need the shoes.
- Brush the suede thoroughly with a suede brush to lift the nap and remove dust; treat any stains with a suede cleaner first and let the shoes dry.
- Mask off soles, laces and any smooth leather trim you do not want coloured.
- Shake the can well for about thirty seconds so the pigments are properly mixed.
- Spray in light, even sweeps from a distance of 20 to 25cm, keeping the can moving. Two thin coats beat one heavy one.
- Let the shoes dry for about thirty minutes, away from radiators and direct sunlight.
- Brush the nap up again with a suede brush to restore that soft, velvety finish. Add a further coat if you want deeper colour.

Frequently asked questions
Will it change the colour of my shoes?
It is designed to refresh the shade you already have rather than to recolour completely. On a lighter blue it will read a little deeper, so always test on a hidden spot – the inside of the heel or the tongue is ideal.
How often should I re-apply it?
Once or twice a season is normal for shoes in regular use. If water stops beading on the surface, that is your cue that the waterproofing needs topping up.
