Slitesterk Midsole Paint Marker Black – Trainer Paint Pen – sharp black lines and clean midsoles, in your own hand

Scuffed midsoles are what make a decent pair of trainers look past it, long before the uppers are actually worn out. A midsole paint pen fixes that in minutes. This Slitesterk marker is loaded with black paint and fitted with a broad 8.5mm chisel tip, so you can lay down wide, even strokes along a midsole or flip it on its edge for fine lines and sharp dots.

That makes it two tools in one. Used gently it is a repair pen: run it along the scuffed edge of a midsole, over a scraped toe bumper or across a marked panel and the damage simply disappears. Used with a bit more ambition it is a customising tool – outline a swoosh, black out a logo, add stripes, or take a whole midsole from tired white to solid black.

Preparation is what separates a good result from a patchy one. Clean the area properly first, and if you are painting on leather, use a leather cleaner beforehand so the paint grips instead of sitting on top of old polish and grease. Two thin coats always beat one thick one.

This is the kind of small job I love, because five minutes with a pen can buy you another year out of a pair of trainers you were about to give up on.

Why choose this Slitesterk paint marker?

  • Broad 8.5mm chisel tip. Wide enough to cover a midsole quickly, and precise enough on its edge for thin lines, outlines and small details.
  • Covers scuffs properly. Solid black pigment hides scrapes on midsoles, toe bumpers and panels instead of just smudging them around.
  • For repairs and for customising. The same pen touches up damage and lets you personalise your trainers, so you are not buying two products.
  • Controlled, mess-free application. Paint flows through the nib as you press, giving you far more control than a brush and no pot to knock over.
  • Works on more than midsoles. Suitable for leather and synthetic uppers as well as rubber midsoles, once the surface is clean and dry.
  • Quick and easy to get right. Shake, prime the tip, apply in thin coats – there is no skill barrier here, just a bit of patience between layers.

How to use the Slitesterk midsole paint marker

  1. Clean the shoes thoroughly first. On leather, use a leather cleaner to strip off old polish and grease so the paint can grip properly.
  2. Shake the marker well before use to mix the paint.
  3. Release the air from the marker, then press the tip down on scrap card or paper until the paint flows evenly through the nib.
  4. Paint your area in thin, even strokes. Use the flat of the chisel tip for wide coverage and the edge for outlines and detail.
  5. Let each coat dry fully, then add a second coat if you want deeper coverage. Cap the pen firmly when you have finished.

Mask off adjacent panels with low-tack tape if you want a razor-sharp edge between the midsole and the upper.

Frequently asked questions

Is the paint permanent and waterproof?

Once it has fully dried it is durable and stands up to normal wear and rain. As with any paint on a flexing surface, edges that crease constantly will need a touch-up eventually – which is easy enough with the pen in your drawer.

Can I use it on the fabric part of my trainers?

It works best on midsoles, smooth leather and synthetic panels. On woven fabric the paint can bleed along the fibres, so test a hidden area first and go on very lightly.

How do I avoid a patchy finish?

Clean first, prime the tip properly so the paint flows before you touch the shoe, and build up in two thin coats with full drying time in between. Rushing a single heavy coat is what causes streaks.

It works better with a little brush

The pens work well . Downside: fine drawings aren’t possible because they’re too thick . I think the pens are just too expensive for what they can do .

It works, but I’d expected it to be more hard-wearing.
