Shoeboy’s Velour Nubuck Box – Two-Sided Suede Cleaning Rubber – two faces, one very tidy result
A suede cleaning rubber is the first thing I reach for when someone brings in a pair of suede boots that have gone shiny at the toes. No water, no sprays, no waiting for anything to dry — just a dry block, a few firm strokes, and the nap stands back up. This Shoeboy’s Velour Nubuck Box does that job better than most because it gives you two working surfaces instead of one.
One side is a fine, smooth foam. That is your everyday face for dust, light scuffs and the flattened, polished patches that build up where your foot flexes. The other side is a coarse, large-pored crepe surface with real bite, and that is what you bring out for a set-in mark, a greasy fingerprint round the eyelets, or a heel that has taken a knock against a kerb.
It works on suede, nubuck, velour and roughened leathers, which covers most desert boots, suede trainers, chukkas, ankle boots and a great many handbags. Because it cleans dry, there is no risk of the water stains and tide marks that come from attacking suede with a wet cloth.
It is a German-made block, it costs £7.95, and it will outlast several bottles of spray. If you own one pair of suede shoes, own one of these too.
Why choose this suede cleaning rubber?
- Two surfaces in one block – the fine foam side handles routine dust and shine, the coarse crepe side tackles stubborn, set-in marks — no need for two separate products.
- Completely dry cleaning – nothing soaks into the leather, so you avoid the water rings and hardened patches that wet cleaning leaves behind on suede.
- Raises the nap as it cleans – the abrasive action lifts crushed fibres upright again, which is what actually restores that velvety look people are chasing.
- Safe on delicate finishes – there are no solvents or aggressive chemicals involved, so it can be used as often as you like without stripping colour.
- Works on far more than shoes – suede bags, jackets, gloves, belts, roughened leather trainers and velour upholstery all respond to the same treatment.
- Very good value – a single block sees off dozens of cleaning sessions, which makes it one of the cheapest ways to keep suede looking cared for.
How to use the Velour Nubuck Box
- Let the shoes dry fully and knock off loose dirt with a suede brush before you start. Never rub a wet suede surface.
- Start with the fine foam side. Rub firmly over the marked area, always moving in the same direction rather than scrubbing back and forth.
- For a stubborn stain or a shiny, flattened patch, switch to the coarse crepe side and use short, confident strokes directly on the mark.
- Brush the whole shoe over with a suede brush in one direction to even out the nap and remove the crumbs the block leaves behind.
- Finish with a suede protector spray, and add a colour reviver if the shade looks a little washed out after cleaning.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the two sides?
The fine foam side is your default. It removes dust, light scuffs and the shiny, crushed areas that appear where the shoe creases. The coarse crepe side is far more abrasive and is meant for spot work on set-in stains. Use the coarse side sparingly and only where you need it.
Will a suede cleaning rubber remove the colour?
It removes a very small amount of surface fibre, which is how it lifts the dirt, so heavy scrubbing in one spot can look slightly lighter afterwards. Work over a wider area with even pressure and the shade stays consistent. A colour reviver puts back any depth you lose.
Does it work on greasy or oily marks?
On fresh grease, yes — the crepe side will lift a surprising amount. Old, deeply soaked oil stains need a dedicated suede degreaser first, then finish with the block to tidy the nap.
How long does one block last?
Far longer than you would think. The block wears down slowly, like an eraser, and most people get a year or two of regular use out of one. When it becomes small and hard, simply replace it.
