Shoeboy’s Mustard Shoe Cream 093 – a German cream for confident yellow leather
Mustard leather is a brave choice and a rewarding one, but it is also very hard to keep looking sharp. Ordinary neutral polish dulls it down towards khaki, and a brown cream kills it outright. What you actually need is a mustard shoe cream with real yellow pigment in it, and that is exactly what Shoeboy’s have put in this little 50ml glass jar.
Shoeboy’s is a German shoe-care house with a serious following among people who look after good footwear. This cream is built on beeswax and other refined waxes, with a colour intensifier, conditioning agents and a waterproofing agent blended in. It is designed for premium smooth leathers – the sort of calf and boxcalf you find on decent Derbys, loafers, monk straps and quality handbags.
The 50ml jar looks small until you use it. A cream this well pigmented only needs a thin film, so one jar comfortably covers years of polishing for a single pair, and the glass jar keeps the contents from drying out between sessions.
Why choose Shoeboy’s Mustard Shoe Cream 093?
- Proper mustard pigment – a warm yellow-ochre that refreshes mustard, ochre and saffron leathers instead of dragging them towards brown or grey.
- Beeswax and refined waxes – the wax blend nourishes and protects at the same time, so the leather stays supple and the finish stays even.
- Waterproofing agent included – a built-in water repellent means every polish also adds a little protection against rain and splashes.
- Keeps TEX linings breathing – the formula is designed not to block the breathability of membrane-lined footwear, so waterproof-breathable shoes keep working as intended.
- Made for premium smooth leather – this is a fine, evenly milled cream rather than a heavy paste. On good calf leather that difference is immediately visible.
How to use Shoeboy’s Mustard Shoe Cream 093
- Brush loose dirt away with a soft brush or wipe the uppers with a dry cloth.
- Clean the leather with a smooth leather cleaner to lift off old polish and any waterproofing layer that would block the cream.
- Let the shoes rest and dry, then wipe them over with a soft cloth.
- Take a small amount of cream on a cloth and work it in with circular movements, building the amount until you reach the depth of colour you want.
- Work extra carefully around the toe cap and the flex creases, where mustard leather fades fastest.
- Let the shoes rest after polishing, away from heat and direct sunlight.
- Buff with a horsehair brush and finish with a cloth. For the best protection, follow up with an impregnating spray.

Frequently asked questions
Will mustard 093 work on ochre or saffron shoes?
Yes. It is a warm yellow with an earthy ochre base, so it sits well on mustard, ochre, saffron and darker yellow leathers. As always, test on the inside heel first, and remember that a cream blends with the colour already in the hide rather than replacing it.
Is this suitable for suede or nubuck?
No. This is a cream for smooth, finished leather and it will mat down the nap of suede or nubuck. For those materials use a suede and nubuck reviver instead.
Should I use a waterproofing spray as well?
The cream already contains a water-repellent agent, which is plenty for everyday wear. If your shoes see heavy rain, a separate impregnating spray applied after polishing adds a further layer of protection without changing the colour.
