Description
Saphir Tenax Leather Dye Spray – Brown (04) – 150ml – bring worn, faded leather shoes back to a rich, even brown in minutes.
I’m Haico, and if there’s one product I reach for when a customer walks in with scuffed, sun-faded or patchy leather, it’s Saphir Tenax. This is a strong, high-coverage aerosol leather dye from the legendary French house of Saphir, formulated to recolour smooth, pigmented leather quickly and evenly. This warm mid-brown (04) is perfect for reviving tan and brown leather that has faded unevenly in the sun. One light, controlled mist and tired leather looks cared-for again – water-, stain- and wear-resistant, with a colour that won’t rub off on your socks or trousers.
Tenax is a genuine favourite in my workshop because it’s so forgiving. It’s ideal for smooth leather shoes, boots and even plastic heels, and because it’s a spray you get a beautifully uniform finish without the brush marks you can get from a liquid dye. It is not suitable for suede or nubuck – for those I’d point you towards our penetrating dyes instead.
Why choose Saphir Tenax in brown?
- Strong covering power. Tenax is a surface dye with genuinely high coverage, so it hides scuffs, scrapes and uneven fading in a single even coat rather than leaving a patchy, half-done look.
- A durable, rub-proof brown. Once dry, the colour is water-, stain- and dirt-resistant and won’t transfer onto your socks or clothing – exactly what you want from a proper leather dye.
- Even, professional finish. Because it’s an aerosol you spray on thin, level layers, so you avoid the streaks and brush marks that let a home dye job down.
- Versatile. Perfect for smooth leather shoes, boots, bags and even plastic heels – anywhere pigmented leather has faded or worn.
- Trusted Saphir quality. Saphir has been making leather care in France since 1920, and Tenax carries that same reputation for results you can rely on.
How to use Saphir Tenax Leather Dye Spray
- Clean the leather thoroughly and let it dry. If the shoes were previously dyed or heavily waxed, use a stripper such as Saphir Decapant first so the new colour bonds properly.
- Mask off soles, welts and laces with tape to keep the finish sharp.
- Shake the can well for around a minute so the pigment is fully mixed.
- Hold the can roughly 30 cm from the leather and spray in a light, even layer – several thin coats always beat one heavy one.
- Allow about 15 minutes of drying time between coats, building the colour until it’s rich and even.
- Once fully dry, finish with a matching shoe cream or wax polish to nourish the leather and lock in the shine.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Saphir Tenax on suede or nubuck?
No – Tenax is a surface dye made for smooth, pigmented leather. For suede and nubuck you’ll want a penetrating dye like Saphir Teinture Française, which soaks into the fibres instead of sitting on top.
Will the colour rub off onto my clothes?
Once it has dried fully, Tenax is water-, stain- and wear-resistant and won’t rub off. Do give it plenty of drying time between coats, and finish with a cream or wax to seal everything in.
How many pairs will one can of brown cover?
It depends on how faded the leather is and how many coats you apply, but a 150ml can comfortably refreshes several pairs of shoes or boots when you work in thin, even layers.
