Description
Saphir Ouraline Leather Grease – traditional waterproofing for hard-working leather
Some products never go out of style because they simply work, and Saphir Ouraline is one of them. This is a traditional leather grease — the kind of trusted, old-fashioned formula that generations have relied on to nourish, soften and waterproof hard-working leather. If you’ve got hiking boots, walking shoes, a leather bag or outdoor gear that needs to stand up to the elements, Ouraline is a brilliant friend to have in the cupboard.
It’s made from a blend of vegetable, animal and mineral waxes with no unnecessary junk, and because it contains no solvents it’s a more ecologically responsible choice too. The transparent formula makes it ideal for hiking and mountaineering boots, and it’s suitable for all leathers — smooth, oiled and greased alike. Available in a handy 100ml and a larger 250ml size.
There’s a reason old-fashioned leather greases have survived the arrival of countless modern sprays: for serious waterproofing on rugged leather, nothing quite beats a proper wax grease worked in by hand. Ouraline is the traditional recipe done well, without solvents or unnecessary additives, and a single tin will see your hiking boots through many a wet season.
Why choose Saphir Ouraline?
- Deep waterproofing – a traditional wax grease that helps leather shrug off rain, mud and damp ground.
- Nourishes and softens – feeds the leather to keep it supple and help prevent cracking.
- Transparent formula – works on hiking and mountaineering boots without changing the colour dramatically.
- Solvent-free – an ecologically responsible grease made from vegetable, animal and mineral waxes.
- Wonderfully versatile – great for boots, bags, hunting gear and any leather that needs to handle water.
How to use Saphir Ouraline
- Clean the leather and let it dry fully before you start.
- Apply a thin, even layer of Ouraline with a cloth or your fingers, working it into the leather and the seams.
- Pay extra attention to areas that flex and to stitching, where water tends to get in.
- Leave to absorb, ideally somewhere warm (but never on direct heat).
- Buff off any excess with a clean cloth, and repeat if you want extra protection.
Haico’s tip
Warm the leather slightly before you apply — a few minutes in a warm room helps the grease soak in deeper and work better. Remember that a heavy grease like this will darken and soften the leather and reduce a high shine, so it’s made for rugged, hard-working boots rather than your smart office shoes. For those, reach for a cream instead.

Frequently asked questions
Will it darken my leather?
A rich grease like this can darken and soften leather, so it’s best on rugged boots and outdoor gear. Test a hidden area first if you’re unsure.
Is it good for Gore-Tex or membrane boots?
On breathable membrane boots, apply sparingly to the leather so you don’t over-treat and affect breathability.
Which size should I choose?
The 100ml is perfect for a pair or two, while the 250ml is better value if you look after several pairs of boots or larger leather items.
Can I use it on leather bags and outdoor gear?
Yes — as well as boots, it’s excellent on leather bags, hunting gear and anything that needs to stand up to water.
