Saphir Old Pink Suede Spray 91 – 200ml Renovetine Colour Reviver for Suede and Nubuck – pastel suede back to the shade you bought
Pale colours fade first, which is why an old pink suede spray earns its place in the cupboard faster than any dark shade does. This is Saphir Renovetine in colour 91, a 200ml aerosol made to refresh, feed and protect suede and nubuck, and old pink is one of those dusty pastels that goes grey and tired after a single sunny summer.
The spray puts the colour back and revives the material at the same time. The formula nourishes the fibres so the nap keeps its natural softness and its matte finish, and it leaves light protection against dirt and moisture behind, so the refresh lasts rather than washing out at the first shower.
I use it on suede courts, ankle boots, bags and the odd pastel trainer. Saphir have been making leather care in France since 1920 and Renovetine is the workhorse of their suede range.
Why choose this old pink suede spray?
- Restores a faded pastel properly. An even mist of pigment lifts old pink back to the shade it started as, rather than leaving the patchy, washed-out look that comes from sun and rain. Pale shades show that fading long before dark ones do.
- Feeds the fibres while it colours. This is not paint. The formula nourishes the individual fibres so the nap stays soft and moves the way suede should, instead of setting into a stiff crust.
- Keeps the matte finish suede needs. Nothing looks worse on suede than a shine. Renovetine dries back to a natural matte, so the material still reads as suede once it is dry.
- Light protection against dirt and damp. The spray leaves a modest barrier behind, which buys you time when a shower catches you out. It is not a substitute for a dedicated waterproofer, but it stops the worst of the marking.
- An aerosol gives even coverage on a nap. A cloth drags across suede and loads colour unevenly. A fine mist from a short distance is the only sensible way to treat a whole shoe in one pass.
- 200ml treats several pairs. One can will comfortably see a pair of boots through a couple of seasons, or refresh three or four pairs of pale shoes in an afternoon.
How to use the Saphir Old Pink Suede Spray 91 – 200ml Renovetine Colour Reviver for Suede and Nubuck
The brushing before and after does as much for the result as the spray itself.
- Brush the suede all over with a suede brush to lift the nap and take off loose dirt and dust.
- Make sure the shoes are completely dry, and let them dry at room temperature first if they are not.
- Shake the can well, then test the colour on a hidden area such as the inside of a heel.
- Spray in even sweeps from a short distance, keeping the can moving so nothing goes on too wet.
- Let the shoes dry naturally, away from radiators and direct sun, before you touch the surface again.
- Brush lightly once more to restore the texture and even the colour out across the whole shoe.
My tip as a shoe specialist
Pastels are the one case where I always spray two light coats instead of one generous one. Old pink shifts noticeably darker if you flood it, and it is far easier to add a second whisper of colour than to lift a heavy coat back out of a nap. Judge the colour only when the shoe is bone dry, because wet suede always looks a shade or two deeper than it will end up. And mask off any light rubber soles with a strip of tape if you want a clean edge.

Frequently asked questions
Will it change the colour of my shoes?
It is made to match, not to recolour. Old pink 91 refreshes suede that started out in that shade, so on a pastel pink shoe it simply brings the original tone back rather than shifting it.
How long before I can wear them?
Give it a couple of hours at room temperature, and overnight if you can. Suede feels dry on the surface long before the fibres underneath have finished, and brushing too early flattens the nap.
Can I use it on a suede bag?
Yes, and on gloves, hats and jackets too. Empty the bag first, stuff it lightly with paper so the panels sit flat, and spray in even sweeps rather than trying to reach into folds. Let it dry fully before you brush the nap up, and treat the handles last since they take the most handling. A single can is plenty for a bag and a matching pair of shoes.
