Saphir Médaille d’Or Gommadin Suede Eraser – the neat way to lift marks from suede
Suede and nubuck look wonderful, but we all know how easily they pick up dry marks, scuffs and shiny patches. The Saphir Médaille d’Or Gommadin is the elegant answer: a natural rubber eraser that gently lifts stains and refreshes the nap without any water and without the risk of discolouration. It comes from Saphir Médaille d’Or, widely regarded as the finest shoe care range in the world, so you are working with the best. I keep one of these to hand at all times – it is the first thing I reach for when a suede trainer or boot picks up a mark.
What makes an eraser so useful is that it works dry. There is no soaking, no drying time and no worry about tide marks. You simply rub the mark away, much like using a pencil eraser on paper, and brush off the crumbs to reveal fresh suede underneath.
Why choose the Saphir Gommadin?
- Removes dry marks and shine: lifts scuffs, greasy shiny patches and everyday dirt from suede, nubuck and roughened leather.
- No risk of discolouration: because it works dry and mechanically, it will not stain or lighten your suede the way water sometimes can.
- Refreshes the nap: the gentle abrasion lifts the fibres back up, so tired, flattened suede looks fresh again.
- Saphir Médaille d’Or quality: part of the most respected shoe care line available, trusted by cobblers and enthusiasts alike.
- Long-lasting and travel-friendly: one block lasts a very long time and slips easily into a bag or drawer.
How to use the Saphir Gommadin
- Make sure the suede is dry and brush off any loose surface dirt first.
- Rub the eraser back and forth over the mark, pressing a little harder on stubborn spots.
- As you work, the eraser will crumble slightly – that is completely normal and part of how it lifts the dirt.
- Brush away the crumbs with a suede brush to reveal the refreshed area.
- Finish by brushing the whole surface in one direction to even out the nap.
For the best results, follow up with a suede brush and, if you like, a suede protector spray to guard against future marks.
One of the reasons I love recommending the Gommadin is how economical it is. A single block will see you through countless clean-ups, and because it needs nothing more than a brush alongside it, there is no ongoing cost or mess. Keep it in the drawer with your suede brush and you will always be ready to rescue a favourite pair the moment it picks up a mark.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use the Gommadin on wet stains?
It is designed for dry marks and scuffs. Let any wet stain dry fully first, then use the eraser. For greasy or set-in stains you may need a dedicated suede cleaner as well.
Will it damage the suede?
No – used gently it simply lifts dirt and revives the nap. Just avoid scrubbing too hard on very delicate suede.
Does it work on nubuck too?
Yes. It is equally at home on nubuck and other roughened leathers, not just suede.
Where can I buy the Saphir Gommadin in the UK?
You can order the Saphir Médaille d’Or Gommadin directly from Shoespecialist.co.uk. We offer free delivery on orders over £50, same-day dispatch when you order before 5pm, and a 60-day return policy.
