Description
Saphir Juvacuir Cognac Brown 10 – for damage an ordinary cream cannot hide
There is a point where a normal shoe cream stops being enough. A scraped corner on a cognac holdall, a pale scratch across a tan brogue, a bag handle worn back to the base colour – no amount of polishing will put that right. This cognac leather recolouring cream from Saphir is the next step up: a recolourant enriched with beeswax and pigments, made specifically to repair scuffing, scratches and discolouration on leather.
Juvacuir repigments, renovates and enhances in one pass, and because the formulation is fluid rather than buttery it is genuinely well suited to large surfaces – bags, jackets, luggage, furniture, saddlery and upholstery as well as shoes and boots. The main ingredients are beeswax, montan wax, lanolin and paste pigments, and it is made in France by Avel, the family firm behind Saphir since 1920.
Why choose Saphir Juvacuir?
This is the product cobblers reach for when leather has gone past the point of polish. Here is why:
- Genuinely covering pigment. Juvacuir has the opacity to hide scuffs, scratches and worn patches completely, rather than simply tinting over them the way a normal shoe cream does.
- It does not rub off. Thanks to the covering pigments, the colour you get does not fade when rubbed or in contact with water – so a repaired bag handle stays repaired.
- Fluid, so it suits big areas. The liquid consistency spreads easily and evenly across a jacket panel or a sofa cushion, where a thick cream would drag and leave edges.
- Colours mix freely. You can blend Juvacuir shades together to match an awkward cognac exactly – invaluable when the factory colour sits between two standard tones.
- Beeswax, montan wax and lanolin. It repairs, but it also nourishes: the wax and lanolin content means you are not simply painting dry leather.
How to use Saphir Juvacuir
Saphir’s own five-step method, which I follow exactly and recommend you do too:
- Choose the right colour for your item, and always test on a hidden part first – inside a flap, under a tongue, behind a cushion.
- Clean the leather thoroughly. If there is old polish or a silicone finish in the way, strip it back with a leather cleaner or Renomat first.
- Shake the bottle well so the pigments are evenly distributed.
- Put a small amount of Juvacuir on a cloth and apply gently to the areas you want to treat, working outwards from the damage so the repair blends in.
- Leave it to dry for 15 minutes, then shine with a clean cotton cloth.
Use it moderately – it is powerful, and thin coats blend better than thick ones. Afterwards, keep the treated item in condition with an ordinary pigmented shoe cream or a leather renovator. Very damaged nappa can be treated with Juvacuir, but be aware it will then behave like a smooth leather.

Frequently asked questions
How is Juvacuir different from an ordinary shoe cream?
Opacity. A shoe cream tints and nourishes; Juvacuir covers. Use Juvacuir to repair visible damage, then maintain the item afterwards with a normal cream such as Crème Surfine or Canadian.
Will it work on a cognac leather sofa?
Yes – that is one of the jobs it is designed for. The fluid consistency makes large panels manageable, and 75ml goes a long way on furniture if you work thinly.
Can I use it on suede?
No. Juvacuir is for smooth, grained and braided leather only. Suede and nubuck need a suede dye or a nap reviver instead.
Does it dry shiny or matt?
It dries to a natural finish that you then bring up with a cotton cloth. If you want more gloss, add a wax polish once the recolourant has fully dried.
