Saphir Graisse Leather Grease Colourless 100ml – deep nourishment and waterproofing for smooth and oiled leather
If you have a pair of leather boots you truly love, this is the tin I reach for first. Saphir Graisse is a traditional leather grease – what many people still call dubbin – made by one of the finest leather-care houses in France. It feeds thirsty leather from within, keeps it soft and supple, and leaves behind a water-repellent barrier that shrugs off rain, mud and puddles.
Built on a base of salmon oil together with natural waxes, this colourless formula sinks deep into the fibres rather than sitting on the surface. It is ideal for smooth leather, oiled leather and oiled nubuck, and it works beautifully on sturdy boots, walking boots and country footwear. Being colourless, it suits any shade of leather, and it is even a clever way to protect leather soles from soaking up water.
Why choose Saphir Graisse Leather Grease?
- Genuine waterproofing. The wax-and-oil blend forms a breathable barrier that keeps water out, so your boots stay drier and warmer on wet days.
- Deep nourishment. Salmon oil penetrates the leather to replace lost natural oils, preventing the cracking and stiffness that come with age and weather.
- Keeps leather supple. Regular use keeps the leather flexible and comfortable, which also helps it last far longer.
- Colourless and versatile. One tin works across every colour of smooth or oiled leather, and it is a favourite for reviving Dr. Martens and rugged boots.
- Trusted Saphir quality. Saphir is renowned worldwide for premium, cosmetic-grade shoe care, and this grease is a workhorse in that range.
How to use Saphir Graisse Leather Grease
- Clean the leather first and let it dry, so the grease can soak in properly.
- Scoop a small amount onto a soft cloth or your fingertips – a little goes a long way.
- Work it into the leather in thin, even layers, paying attention to seams and welts where water gets in.
- Leave it to absorb for a few hours, ideally overnight.
- Buff off any excess with a clean cloth. Repeat for very dry or heavily used leather.
Haico’s tip: always apply thin coats. Too much grease at once can leave leather feeling heavy, so I personally build it up gradually – it gives a better finish and lets you control exactly how much protection your boots get.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Saphir Graisse on suede or nubuck?
It is designed for smooth and oiled leather. On regular suede it will darken and flatten the nap, so I would not recommend it there – it is at its best on smooth and oiled leather and oiled nubuck.
Will it darken my leather?
Any grease can slightly darken leather, especially lighter shades. Always test on a hidden area first. On mid and dark leathers the effect is usually minimal.
