Description
Saphir Canadian Leather Cream Dark Green 20 – a beeswax-rich dark green leather cream for jackets, bags and shoes
A dark green leather jacket is a wonderful thing right up until the elbows and the collar start to go grey. Green is a difficult shade to keep alive: it fades unevenly, the worn areas turn dusty rather than pale, and once that happens the whole garment looks older than it is.
Saphir Canadian is the answer French leather workers have used for decades. It is a rich cream with a very high beeswax content, over thirty per cent of the wax in the formula, which makes it substantial enough for thick or badly faded leather. It cleans, feeds, recolours, waterproofs and shines in one product, and because it dries quickly and buffs out cleanly it does not mark clothing afterwards.
This dark green leather cream is heavily pigmented, so a little goes a long way. It was designed for jackets, coats, bags and luggage, but it works beautifully on shoes and on leather furniture too. Saphir has been made in France since 1920 and is used in more than fifty countries, which tells you most of what you need to know about the quality.
Why choose Saphir Canadian in Dark Green 20?
- Built for large leather goods. The 75ml tube is designed for jackets, coats, holdalls and sofas, where a small shoe-sized pot would simply not go far enough.
- Over thirty per cent beeswax. That is a serious amount of wax, and it is what allows the cream to feed thick, dry or heavily faded leather rather than just glazing the surface.
- Strong dark green pigment. Enough colour to bring a faded green jacket or bag back to an even tone, which very few care creams in this shade can manage.
- Softens and waterproofs. Feeding the leather makes it supple again, and the wax film leaves it water-repellent, so rain sits on the surface instead of soaking in.
- Does not stain when buffed. Properly rubbed out, Canadian dries quickly and stays put. That is the difference between a professional cream and a cheap dressing.
How to use Saphir Canadian
- Dust the leather down with a cotton cloth or a soft brush so you are not grinding grit into the surface.
- If the item is genuinely dirty, clean it first and let it dry fully at room temperature, away from radiators.
- Squeeze a very small amount of cream onto a cotton cloth. Canadian is highly concentrated and over-applying is the only real way to get this wrong.
- Work it into the leather in small sections rather than trying to cover a whole jacket at once.
- Let it dry for about fifteen minutes.
- Polish with a clean cotton cloth until the surface is even and nothing transfers onto the cloth.
- Repeat on badly faded areas such as elbows, corners and handles. Always test on a hidden section first, and keep it away from suede and nubuck.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Canadian on a leather sofa?
Yes, that is one of the things it is best at. Work in small sections, use very little, and buff each section out before moving on. For a large three-seater you may want two tubes.
Will the green rub off onto my clothes?
Not once it has been buffed properly. The rule is simple: keep polishing until a clean cloth comes away clean. If it is still picking up colour, there is too much product on the leather.
What is the difference between Canadian and a shoe cream?
Canadian carries far more wax and pigment and comes in a 75ml tube, because it is meant for the larger surfaces of jackets, bags and furniture. A shoe cream is finer and lighter and made for a pair of shoes.
