Royal Leather Care & Colour Graphite Grey (073) – 200ml – feed and recolour tired grey leather furniture in one go

Leather furniture takes more punishment than most people realise. Daily use rubs at the seat cushions, sunlight through a window slowly bleaches the arms, and the natural oils in the hide dry out until the surface starts to look chalky. This grey leather furniture cream from Royal deals with both halves of that problem at once: it feeds the leather and it puts the colour back.

Graphite grey is a shade that shows fading badly, because the pale patches sit in sharp contrast to the darker leather around them. Care and Colour evens all of that out. You work it in with a cloth, let it soak, then buff it off, and the panel comes back to a consistent tone instead of a map of light and dark areas.

Supple leather also creases far less and stands up better to water marks and dirt, which is why I recommend treating furniture before it starts to look tired rather than after. On a brand new sofa a colourless treatment first is a sensible move, with the pigmented shade kept for later when the colour actually needs help.

Royal is made by Oranje Furniture Care and it is the range I trust for upholstery. One 200ml bottle covers a surprising amount of furniture, and I would rather you treated your sofa three times a year with a little than once with a lot.

Why choose Royal Leather Care and Colour?

  • Care and colour in one bottle. You are not choosing between feeding the leather and hiding the fading. This does both in a single application, which saves both time and money.
  • Evens out worn patches. Pigment settles into the areas that have lost colour, so the difference between the well-used seat and the untouched back panel largely disappears.
  • Keeps leather supple. Feeding the hide keeps it flexible, and flexible leather creases less deeply and resists cracking along the fold lines.
  • Better resistance to water and dirt. A cared-for, conditioned surface simply holds up better to spills, damp coats and everyday grubbiness.
  • Safe on more than sofas. It works equally well on leather chairs, footstools, bags, jackets and car interiors, as long as the leather is pigmented and finished.
  • Easy to apply properly. Cloth on, circular motions, soak, buff off. There is no spraying, no masking and no specialist kit needed.

How to use grey leather furniture cream

  1. Clean the leather first with a dedicated leather cleaner or a barely damp cloth, and let it dry completely. Applying over surface dirt simply grinds that dirt into the finish.
  2. Shake the bottle well, then test on a hidden area, such as the back of the sofa or under a cushion, and let it dry to check both the shade and the colourfastness.
  3. Put a small amount on a dry, lint-free cloth and work it into the leather in circular motions. Around 15ml per seating area is a sensible guide, adjusted for how thirsty the leather is.
  4. Let it soak in for a few minutes so the leather can take up what it needs, then buff off any surplus with a second clean cloth until the finish is even and dry to the touch.
  5. Repeat the whole treatment roughly three times a year. Regular light treatments keep furniture looking far better than one heavy rescue attempt every few years.

Frequently asked questions

Will it cover deep scratches in my sofa?

It will disguise light scuffing and even out faded areas very well. A deep cut that has gone through the finish into the hide is a repair job rather than a care job, and no cream will fill it.

Should I use the colourless version instead?

On new or still richly coloured furniture, yes. Use the colourless variety to protect from day one and keep a pigmented shade like graphite grey for when the colour genuinely starts to fade.

How do I know if my leather is suitable?

If the surface has a finish on it and water beads rather than soaking straight in, it is pigmented leather and this is right for it. Suede, nubuck and velour are not suitable. Test a hidden area first either way.

How much do I need for a three-seater sofa?

As a rough guide, allow around 15ml per seating area per treatment, so a 200ml bottle covers several full treatments of a three-seater. Thirsty, older leather will use a little more on the first pass.
