Royal Leather Care and Colour Mid Beige 131 – care and colour for beige leather furniture in one cream

Beige leather furniture has a hard life. Sunlight bleaches it, arms and headrests take the grease from hands and hair, and after a few years the seat cushions look distinctly different from the back. A pigmented mid beige leather cream puts the colour back and feeds the hide at the same time, which is a far cheaper afternoon than reupholstering.

Royal shade 131 is a mid beige – the warm, sandy neutral that most beige sofas and armchairs are made in. Our supplier lists it as Middle Beige, and it sits between the pale creams and the darker taupes in the range.

The clever thing about Care and Colour is that it does two jobs at once. It is a nourishing cream that keeps the leather supple, and it carries enough pigment to even out faded and worn areas. Supple leather creases less, and leather that creases less holds its colour for longer, so the two jobs help each other.

It is made for furniture leather, including aniline and semi-aniline hides, and it works just as well on leather bags, jackets and car seats. It is not for suede or nubuck – napped leathers need a spray, not a cream.

Why choose this mid beige leather cream?

  • Feeds and recolours in one pass. You are not doing two separate jobs with two separate products. One cream keeps the hide supple and evens out the faded patches at the same time.
  • Made for furniture leather. Sofa leather is thicker and more heavily finished than shoe leather. This cream is formulated for it, including aniline and semi-aniline hides that need a gentle touch.
  • A useful mid beige. Shade 131 is the sandy neutral that most beige three-piece suites are made in, so it blends in rather than standing out as a patch.
  • Keeps leather resistant to marks. Nourished leather resists water rings and dirt far better than a dried-out hide, so the sofa stays easier to wipe down between treatments.
  • Good on bags, jackets and car seats. The same cream works on any smooth, finished leather, so one tub can look after the sofa, the car and your favourite jacket.
  • Suits new furniture too. On a brand-new suite, start with the colourless version to build protection and keep the pigmented cream for later, when the colour actually needs help.

How to use Royal Leather Care and Colour 131

  1. Vacuum the piece and wipe it down with a leather cleaner to remove body oils and dirt. On a headrest or an arm, this step matters most.
  2. Let the leather dry completely before you start.
  3. Test the cream on a hidden area first – the back of the sofa or under a cushion – and let it dry so you can judge the colour match.
  4. Apply a thin layer with a soft cloth or a polyether sponge, working in circles over a section at a time.
  5. Build the coverage gradually on the faded areas. Two thin coats give a far more even result than one thick one.
  6. Let it dry, then buff lightly with a clean cloth and move on to the next section.

I would treat a well-used sofa two or three times a year. On a suite that sits in direct sunlight, three times is not excessive – sunlight is what does most of the fading.

Frequently asked questions

Will it match my beige sofa exactly?

It will get you very close, but leather ages differently in different places, so always test on a hidden panel first. Because the cream tints rather than paints, the existing tone of your hide still shows through and helps the blend.

How often should leather furniture be treated?

Twice a year for a normally used suite, three times if it sits in sunlight or gets heavy daily use. Between treatments, a dry dust and the occasional wipe with a damp cloth is all it needs.
