Leather that works for a living needs feeding, not polishing. Walking boots, work boots, riding boots, bridles, saddles, jackets and bags all take a battering from wet weather, sweat, salt and sunshine, and what they lose is the natural fats that keep the fibres flexible. Rapide Leather Grease puts those fats back — and because this tub is colourless, it does it on any shade of leather without changing the tone.

The formula is a blend of mineral oils and high-quality waxes. The oils soak into the pores and restore suppleness from inside the leather; the waxes stay nearer the surface and make it water repellent, so rain beads up and runs off instead of soaking through to your socks. That combination is why traditional grease still outperforms most modern sprays on heavy leather.

How to use Rapide Leather Grease

  1. Clean the leather first. Brush off mud and dust, wipe with a damp cloth or a leather soap if it is really dirty, and let it dry naturally at room temperature.
  2. Take a small amount on an application brush, a cloth or your fingertips. Warming it slightly between your fingers helps it spread further.
  3. Rub it into the leather in small circles, working extra grease into seams, welts and the creases at the flex points where cracking starts.
  4. Let it soak in for at least half an hour — longer on very dry leather. Somewhere warm but never hot, and never on a radiator.
  5. Buff off any surplus with a clean cloth or a brush. Repeat every few weeks on boots in heavy use, or whenever water stops beading on the surface.

Does colourless grease really leave the shade unchanged?

Almost. Without pigment there is nothing to tint the leather, but any grease deepens the tone very slightly simply because it makes a dry surface less chalky. On a pale or natural leather, test on a hidden area first so you know exactly what to expect.

Can I use it on walking boots with fabric panels?

Yes, on the leather parts. Keep it off breathable membrane fabric and mesh, because grease clogs the weave and reduces breathability. For the fabric sections, a dedicated waterproofing spray is the right tool.

How is leather grease different from shoe cream?

Shoe cream is about colour and finish with a little nourishment. Grease is almost all nourishment and water protection, and it deliberately softens the leather. Use grease on boots and working leather, and cream on dress shoes where you want structure and a shine.

Will it make my boots too soft?
