Marla Gold Shoe Polish 074 – 50ml Metallic Beeswax Cream for Leather – a warm metallic gold that feeds the leather as it shines

Metallic leather is brilliant when it is fresh and rather sad once the shine has worn off the toes. The trouble is that a normal brown or neutral cream simply will not do the job: the finish needs metallic pigment to look right again. This gold shoe polish is a proper metallic beeswax cream, and it costs less than six pounds.

Marla is the quiet workhorse of my shelves. There is nothing flashy about the range, which is rather funny given the colour in this pot. A simple beeswax cream, around fifty shades, a 50ml pot, and a formula that nourishes smooth leather, protects it and puts the colour back where the toe has rubbed. For a pair of party shoes or gold-trimmed trainers that is genuinely all you need.

The beeswax is what makes the difference. Wax is what keeps leather fibres flexible, and flexible leather creases where it should instead of splitting across the vamp after two winters. The gold pigment sits on top of that, which means you get care and appearance from a single pot rather than treating the shoes twice.

Why choose the Marla Gold Shoe Polish?

  • A genuinely metallic gold – the pigment carries a metallic sheen, so it matches gold and champagne leather properly instead of leaving a flat mustard patch where the shine used to be.
  • Beeswax base – it feeds the leather and leaves a natural warmth that builds nicely with a brush, so the shoes are conditioned as well as recoloured.
  • Real colour restoration – the pigments even out the shade on worn toes and heels rather than simply glossing over them, which is what a clear polish would do.
  • Around fifty shades in the range – so if you have a second pair in bronze, silver or a difficult brown, there is almost certainly a Marla pot that matches it.
  • Honest value at £5.95 – the cheapest insurance policy you will ever buy for a good pair of leather shoes, and one pot will treat a pair many times over.

How to use the Marla Gold Shoe Polish

  1. Brush the dirt off your shoes with a stiff brush, working around the welt and into the creases where grit collects.
  2. Wipe away any stubborn marks with a barely damp cloth and let the leather dry naturally, away from direct heat.
  3. Take a little polish onto a polishing cloth or a dauber brush. Metallic pigment covers well, so start with less than you would use of an ordinary cream.
  4. Apply a thin layer and work it into the leather with circular movements, covering the whole panel evenly rather than only the worn spot.
  5. Let it dry for about fifteen minutes so the wax can set and the pigment can settle.
  6. Buff it out with a polishing cloth or a horsehair brush until the metallic sheen comes up, and add a second thin coat if the leather was very dry.

My tip from behind the counter

Metallic finishes are less forgiving than plain colours, so test on the inside of the heel first and build the gold in thin layers. If you go on too thickly the pigment sits proud of the grain and you can see exactly where you worked. Thin coats, proper buffing, and the repair disappears.

Frequently asked questions

Will it match my gold shoes exactly?

Metallic leathers vary a lot, from pale champagne to a deep antique gold, so treat this as a close match rather than a factory respray. Test the inside of the heel first. On most gold uppers it blends in very well once buffed.

Can I use it on gold trim on trainers?

Yes, and it is one of the neatest uses for it. Apply it with a cotton bud or the corner of a cloth so you keep the gold on the trim and off the surrounding panels.

Does it stain socks or trousers?

Not once it is buffed out. The rule is simple: if you can pick pigment up on a clean cloth, it has not been buffed enough yet. Give it another minute with the brush.
