Description
Kaps Light Grey Suede Renovator Spray 114 – 200ml Colour and Waterproofing – colour back in the nap and water off the surface, in one can
Light grey suede is beautiful for about one season. Then the toes go pale, the sides pick up a bloom, and what was a soft dove grey slowly turns into something closer to dusty white. Because the shade is so pale to begin with, there is very little depth left to lose before it looks worn out.
A light grey suede renovator spray puts that depth back in a couple of minutes and re-waterproofs the shoe while it is at it. Kaps make this in Poland and the can does two jobs at once: the pigment settles evenly into the nap to restore a consistent shade, while the impregnating agents rebuild the water repellency that fresh suede has and older suede has lost.
What it does not do is seal the surface. The finish leaves the leather breathing, which matters if your boots have a waterproof membrane or you simply wear them all day. And because it goes on as a fine mist rather than a liquid you brush in, it is far kinder to a delicate pale nap than anything applied by hand.
Why choose the Kaps Renovator Spray?
What an aerosol renovator does better than a bottle and a brush.
- Even colour without patches. The aerosol lays the pigment down in a fine mist, which is much kinder to a napped surface than any liquid you brush on – and pale grey shows every brush mark.
- Waterproofing built in. The same coat that restores the shade also renews the water and dirt repellency, so puddles bead on the surface instead of soaking straight in.
- Stays breathable. The finish does not block the pores of the leather, so a membrane-lined boot carries on working the way it was designed to.
- Works on textile too. Canvas trainers and fabric uppers take the colour just as well as suede and nubuck, which is handy on a mixed-material pair.
- A generous 200ml can. Enough for several treatments on a pair of boots, and the shade stays consistent from the first spray to the last.
How to use the Kaps Renovator Spray
Two light passes always beat one heavy one. Blotches come from impatience.
- Brush the whole shoe with a suede brush or crepe block to lift the nap and take off surface dirt. Grit left behind will show up under the colour.
- Mask off soles, rands and any smooth leather trim with masking tape, and work outdoors or in a well-ventilated room.
- Shake the can hard for around 30 seconds so the pigment is properly mixed.
- Test on a hidden area first – the inside of the heel or under the tongue – and judge the shade once it has dried.
- Spray in even sweeps from roughly 20cm away, keeping the can moving the whole time.
- Leave the shoes to dry for about 15 minutes, then brush the nap back up with a suede brush to restore that soft, even velvet finish.
My tip from behind the counter
On pale grey suede, do the whole shoe and both shoes of the pair in one session – even if only one looks tired. Light shades are the least forgiving of all when it comes to a partial job, because there is no depth of colour to hide the join. And keep the can moving; the temptation with a pale pigment is to hover over a mark until it disappears, which is precisely how you get a dark ring instead.

Frequently asked questions
Will it change the shade of my shoes?
On suede that was originally a pale grey it restores the shade rather than changing it. On a lighter or off-white suede it will darken and pull the tone towards grey, so always test on a hidden patch and judge it once dry.
Does it make the suede stiff?
No. The nap stays soft as long as you brush it up once the shoes are dry and you do not flood the leather. Two light coats keep the texture; one soaking coat is what makes suede feel crisp.
Can I use it on trainers?
Yes, on suede, nubuck and canvas trainers. Mask the midsole and the rubber toe bumper first, because the pigment will happily settle on those as well and it is far easier to prevent than to clean off.
