Description
Kaps Leather Renovating Paste Mid Brown 25ml – Filler for Scratches – fills cuts, cracks and gouges so damaged leather gets a second life
A shoe with a cut in it is not rubbish, whatever it looks like. A gouge from a kerb, a split across the toe, a chunk missing from a car seat bolster, a crack in a bag handle — all of that can be filled, levelled and coloured back in. Kaps Leather Renovating Paste is the product that does the filling.
It is a thick, strong paste that you press into the damage rather than spread over it. Once it has cured it stays flexible, which is the whole trick: a filler that dries hard would crack out the first time the shoe flexed. This one moves with the leather instead of fighting it.
This is the mid brown shade (139), which blends into most everyday brown leathers. Because the paste dries with a matte surface, you finish the job by polishing over the top with a cream or a leather dye in your colour, and the repair disappears into the surrounding leather.
I will be straight with you: this is a repair product and it rewards patience. Fill thinly, let it dry properly, level it carefully. Rush it and you get a lumpy patch.
Why choose Kaps Leather Renovating Paste?
- Fills real damage, not just scuffs. Cuts, tears, cracks, gouges and deep scratches — the paste builds the missing material back up, which no cream or polish can do.
- Dries flexible. It stays supple after curing, so the repair moves with the leather at the flex point instead of cracking out after a week of wear.
- Works on smooth and synthetic leather. Natural smooth and grain leathers and man-made leathers all take it, which makes it as useful on a faux-leather sofa or a car seat as on a pair of boots.
- Takes colour beautifully. The cured paste dries matte and accepts shoe cream and leather dyes, so you can match it into the surrounding leather rather than leaving an obvious patch.
- Sands and levels cleanly. Once dry it can be smoothed with a firm cloth or a piece of fine sandpaper, which is how you get a repair that is flat and invisible to the touch.
- A little pot goes a long way. 25ml is a lot of filler when you are only pressing it into damaged areas. One pot will cover a great many small repairs around the house.
How to use Kaps Leather Renovating Paste
- Clean the damaged area and let it dry. Trim away any loose flapping fibres or torn edges with small scissors so you are filling a clean cavity.
- Take a little paste on a cloth or a small spatula and press it firmly into the damage. Work it in rather than smoothing it over the top — you want it filling the void, not sitting on the surface.
- Scrape the excess away with the spatula so the paste stays inside the repair and does not stand proud of the surrounding leather. Build deep damage in two or three thin layers rather than one deep one.
- Leave it to cure for four to twelve hours depending on how much you have used and how warm the room is. Do not put it near a radiator — forced drying causes shrinkage and cracking.
- When it is fully dry, smooth the repair with a firm cloth, or with a piece of fine sandpaper if it needs it, then polish over the top with a matching shoe cream or leather dye.
For a glossy finish over a repair, a leather dye such as Kaps Super Color goes over the cured paste very well. For a normal shoe, a pigmented cream in the right shade is usually all you need to blend the patch in.

Frequently asked questions
How big a hole can this actually fix?
Small to medium damage: cuts, splits, deep scratches, gouges and small missing chunks. Build it up in thin layers and let each one dry. What it cannot do is bridge a large open tear with nothing behind it — for that you need a backing patch underneath first, then the paste on top.
Will the repair still be visible?
Done carefully, barely. The paste dries matte, so the trick is levelling it flush and then colouring over the top with a cream or dye in the right shade. Where the leather has a strong grain pattern you may still see the smooth patch at a certain angle, but from normal distance a good repair disappears.
Can I use it on my sofa or car seats?
Yes — it works on natural and synthetic leather upholstery, and cracked bolsters on car seats are one of the most common uses. Work in thin layers, allow the full drying time, and finish with a matching colourant. Keep it off suede and nubuck upholstery.
Does it need to be sanded?
Only if it is standing slightly proud once dry. Most repairs level out enough with a firm cloth. If you do need to sand, use a fine grade and go gently, in the direction of the grain, then colour over the top afterwards.
