Description
Kaps Dark Lilac Suede Renovator Spray 102 – colour back, water off
Suede fades. Sunlight, rain and the simple act of brushing it week after week gradually pull the colour out of the nap, and a purple boot slowly turns into a grey one. A dark lilac suede renovator spray puts that colour back in a couple of minutes, and re-waterproofs the shoe at the same time.
Kaps make this in Poland and it does two jobs at once. The pigment settles evenly into the nap to restore an even, saturated shade, while the impregnating agents rebuild the water repellency that fresh suede has and old suede has lost. Crucially, it does not seal the surface – the leather still breathes, so your boots do not turn into plastic bags.
Why choose the Kaps Renovator Spray?
- Even colour without patches – the aerosol lays the pigment down in a fine mist, which is far kinder to a napped surface than any liquid you brush on.
- Waterproofing built in – the same coat that restores the shade also renews the water and dirt repellency, so puddles bead instead of soaking in.
- Stays breathable – the finish does not block the pores of the leather, which matters if your boots have a membrane or you wear them all day.
- Works on textile too – canvas trainers and fabric uppers take the colour just as well as suede and nubuck, which is handy for a matching pair.
- A generous 200ml can – enough for several treatments on a pair of boots, and the shade stays consistent from the first spray to the last.
How to use the Kaps Renovator Spray
- Brush the whole shoe with a suede brush or crepe block to lift the nap and take off surface dirt. Any grit left behind will show up under the colour.
- Mask off soles, rands and any smooth leather trim with masking tape, and work outdoors or in a well-ventilated room.
- Shake the can hard for around 30 seconds so the pigment is properly mixed.
- Test on a hidden area first – the inside of the heel or under the tongue – and check the shade once it has dried.
- Spray in even sweeps from roughly 20cm away, keeping the can moving. Two light passes beat one heavy one, which is where blotches come from.
- Leave the shoes to dry for about 15 minutes, then brush the nap back up with a suede brush to restore that soft, even velvet finish.
My tip from behind the counter
Do both shoes of a pair in the same session, even if only one looks tired. Suede colour is subtle enough that a freshly renovated left boot next to an untouched right one is very obvious in daylight – and while the can is open you may as well finish the job properly.

Frequently asked questions
Will it change the shade of my boots?
On a boot that was originally this sort of purple, it restores the shade rather than changing it. On a lighter suede it will darken and shift the colour towards lilac, so always test on a hidden patch first and judge it once dry.
Does it stiffen the suede?
No. The nap stays soft as long as you brush it up once the spray has dried – that brushing step is what separates a boot that looks renovated from one that looks sprayed.
How often do I need to reapply?
For boots in regular winter use, roughly every couple of months, or whenever water stops beading on the surface. A quick brush between treatments keeps the nap looking fresh for much longer.
