Famaco Sil Best White Shoe Cream Tube 398 – 75ml with Sponge Applicator – the tidy way to feed and brighten white leather

White leather is wonderful for about a fortnight. Then the toes scuff, the flex creases go grey, and the whole shoe starts to look tired long before it is worn out. A white shoe cream tube is the quickest fix I know, and this is the one I keep in the drawer at home.

Famaco Sil Best is a beauty cream for smooth leather in a 75ml tube with the sponge applicator built into the cap. That format does away with the cloth entirely, which on a white shoe genuinely matters: you squeeze, you glide, and the cream lands where you want it instead of on your fingers and then on the lining.

Shade 398 is a clean, bright white. It carries enough pigment to lift scuffed toes and grey heel counters back to an even colour, while the oils and waxes in the formula feed the leather underneath and leave a soft satin shine you can brush up. Famaco have been making leather care just outside Paris since 1931, and this cream is a very good example of what they do well.

Why choose the Famaco Sil Best White?

  • Feeds the leather properly. Natural oils and waxes sink into the fibres and keep them supple, which is what stops white smooth leather drying out and cracking along the creases.
  • Puts the white back. Shade 398 covers scuffed toes, worn heel counters and the grey patches that appear where your foot bends, without turning the leather flat and painted.
  • Sponge applicator in the cap. No cloth, no brush and nothing to wash out afterwards. The sponge spreads a thin, even film, which is exactly how a shoe cream should go on.
  • Shines and helps repel water. The wax content builds a soft sheen when you buff it and gives the surface a little extra resistance to rain and splashes on the way to work.
  • Travel and desk friendly. A sealed 75ml tube will not spring open in a weekend bag the way a loose tin sometimes does, so it lives happily in a suitcase or an office drawer.

How to use the Famaco Sil Best White

  1. Brush the shoes down and wipe off any surface dirt. On white leather it is worth using a leather cleaner first, because dirt left behind will grey the cream.
  2. Make sure the leather is completely dry before you start.
  3. Squeeze a small amount straight onto the sponge cap and glide it over one shoe in overlapping strokes.
  4. Work a little extra into the scuffed toe and the heel counter, but keep every layer thin.
  5. Let the cream dry for around ten minutes.
  6. Buff the shoe with a soft cloth or a polishing brush until an even satin shine appears.

My tip from behind the counter

Two thin coats always beat one thick one on white. A heavy layer takes an age to dry, picks up dust while it does, and ends up looking chalky. And do keep a separate cloth for your white shoes, because a cloth that has seen black polish will undo all your good work in a single wipe.

Frequently asked questions

Will it cover scuffs on white trainers?

On smooth leather trainers, yes. It will even out scuffed toes and grey creases nicely. For a scrape that has gone through the finish into the leather you would want an opaque leather paint instead.

Does it go yellow over time?

Not if you apply it thinly and buff it out. Yellowing usually comes from a heavy layer that never fully dried, or from an old cloth that has picked up colour from another polish.

How often should I use it?

For shoes in regular wear, every couple of weeks is about right. Give them a brush after each wearing and the cream will do far less work when it is finally needed.
