Collonil Scotch Suede Spray 326 – colour and protection for warm tan suede in one aerosol
If you own a pair of tan suede boots or nubuck trainers, you already know the problem. After a couple of months of British weather the nap flattens, the warm brown goes dusty and grey, and a few rain spots settle in that no brushing will shift. That is exactly the moment this Collonil scotch suede spray earns its place on the shelf.
It is a two-jobs-in-one aerosol. The fine pigment mist puts the warm tan tone back into the fibres so the colour reads deep and even again, while the impregnating agents wrap every single fibre in an invisible water- and dirt-repellent film. The leather still breathes, so your feet stay comfortable, but rain and road grime bead up and roll off instead of soaking in.
Scotch is Collonil colour 326: a warm, slightly reddish mid tan that sits between cognac and light brown. It is the shade most classic tan suede desert boots, chukka boots and brogues are cut from, and because the spray goes on as a mist rather than a paste, it blends into the existing colour rather than sitting on top of it.
I personally reach for this one at the start of autumn and again halfway through winter. Two rounds a season is enough to keep a pair of tan suede boots looking like they came out of the box, and the 200ml can easily covers a full season for several pairs.
Why choose Collonil Scotch Suede Spray 326?
- Puts the warm tan back – The pigments in this scotch suede spray recolour the nap itself, so faded patches on the toes and flex creases disappear instead of being covered over. Perfect for tan desert boots, nubuck trainers and suede handbags that have gone dull.
- Genuine rain and stain protection – The impregnating film stops water and dirt penetrating the fibres, which is what causes those dark, permanent tide marks. Rain sits on the surface in beads and can simply be brushed off once dry.
- Keeps the leather breathing – Unlike a wax or a silicone coating, this spray does not seal the pores. Air and moisture vapour still pass through, so your boots stay comfortable on a long day and the leather does not dry out or stiffen.
- Protects the velvety nap – Suede lives or dies by its texture. This formula dries without leaving a crust or a shine, so once you have brushed the nap up you get that soft, plush hand feel back rather than a matted, sticky surface.
- Built-in UV filters – Sunlight bleaches tan suede faster than almost anything else. The UV filters in the spray slow that fading down considerably, which matters if you wear the same pair through spring and summer.
- Collonil know-how since 1909 – Collonil have been making leather care in Berlin since 1909, and this classic Nubuk and Velours aerosol is one of their longest-running products. It is trusted by shoemakers precisely because it does not change the character of the material.
How to use Collonil Scotch Suede Spray 326
- Brush the shoes thoroughly with a crepe or rubber suede brush to lift the nap and remove dust and dry dirt. Work in one direction so the fibres all lie the same way.
- Treat any stubborn marks with a suede cleaner or a suede rubber first, and let the shoes dry completely at room temperature. Never dry them on a radiator.
- Shake the can well, then test the spray on a hidden spot such as the inside heel to confirm the shade suits your leather.
- Hold the can roughly 20cm from the shoe and apply three light, sweeping passes rather than one heavy one. Work in a well-ventilated room or outdoors.
- Leave the shoes for about 20 minutes so the spray can penetrate deep into the material. Resist the urge to touch them while they are still damp.
- Once fully dry, brush the nap up again with a clean suede brush. Repeat the treatment after roughly eight to ten wears, or whenever water stops beading on the surface.

Frequently asked questions
Will this scotch suede spray change the colour of my shoes?
It refreshes rather than repaints. The pigment sits in the nap and deepens the tone you already have, so a faded tan comes back to a rich tan. It cannot make a light shoe darker in a controlled way, and it will not turn a dark shoe lighter, so always match the shade to the leather and test on a hidden spot first.
How often should I use it?
For everyday autumn and winter wear I would say every eight to ten wears, or as soon as you notice raindrops soaking in instead of beading up. A brand new pair should always get one treatment before its first outing, which is the single best thing you can do for suede.
