Description
Collonil Carbon Wax Spray 300ml – long-lasting waterproofing for smooth leather
There is waterproofing, and then there is this. Collonil Carbon Wax spray is a high-performance impregnation spray built around a layered carbon structure, and it gives smooth leather a level of protection that ordinary sprays simply do not reach.
The idea is straightforward. The layered structure closes the surface so tightly that moisture cannot work its way into the material, and water droplets roll straight off instead of soaking in. Dirt and dust have a much harder time settling too.
It is made specifically for smooth and matt leather, which makes it the right choice for city shoes, leather jackets and heavy walking or trekking boots. It does not just protect either – it nourishes the leather at the same time, and well-fed leather picks up fewer stains in the first place.
The 300ml can is the large format, so there is plenty here for a whole household of shoes. Collonil have been making leather care in Germany since 1909, and Carbon Wax sits right at the top of their protection range.
Why choose Collonil Carbon Wax?
- Extremely long-lasting protection. The layered carbon structure holds up far longer than a standard waterproofing spray, so you re-treat much less often.
- Water simply rolls off. Droplets bead on the surface and run away rather than darkening the leather, which keeps shoes looking presentable in the wet.
- Repels dirt and dust. A closed surface gives grime much less to cling to, so your shoes stay cleaner between proper cleans.
- Nourishes as it protects. Unlike many impregnation sprays it also cares for the leather, so the surface does not dry out under the protection.
- Safe on breathable membranes. Suitable for shoes with Gore-Tex or Sympatex linings, so your walking boots keep breathing as they should.
- Large 300ml can. Plenty for a family’s worth of shoes, boots and jackets, which makes it excellent value per treatment.
How to use Collonil Carbon Wax
- Clean the leather thoroughly and let it dry completely. Impregnation over damp or dirty leather seals in the problem.
- Shake the can well before you start.
- Spray evenly from a distance of at least 30cm, keeping the can moving so no area is soaked.
- Work outdoors or in a very well-ventilated room, and keep the spray away from floors and furnishings.
- Let the shoes dry thoroughly before you wear them – leaving them overnight gives the best result.
- Renew the protection after roughly twelve to fifteen wears, or sooner if you can see that water has stopped beading.
A practical note: the easiest way to check whether your protection is still working is to flick a few drops of water onto the toe. If they sit up as beads, you are fine. If they spread and darken the leather, it is time for another coat. Treat new shoes before their first outing, and never spray a pair that is still damp from the rain.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Carbon Wax on suede or nubuck?
This one is made for smooth and matt leather. For suede and nubuck I would use a dedicated suede protector spray instead, which is formulated to leave the nap open and velvety.
How often should I re-apply it?
As a rule of thumb, after about twelve to fifteen wears, though heavy rain and rough ground will shorten that. The water-drop test on the toe tells you far more than any calendar.
