Description
Collonil Carbon Lab Protecting Spray AF 100ml — invisible protection for your favourite trainers
If you have ever watched a fresh pair of trainers pick up a rain stain within a week, you will understand why I always protect a new pair before they ever leave the house. Collonil Carbon Lab Protecting Spray AF is a high-tech, breathable water barrier developed specifically for sneakers and modern trainers. It lays down an invisible protective layer that keeps rain, mud and everyday grime from soaking into the material, while still letting your shoes breathe. Best of all, this is the aerosol-free (AF) version, so you can safely use it indoors and it is a kinder choice for the environment.
I keep a bottle of this on the shelf for exactly the sort of trainers people bring into the shop — canvas, mesh, knit, smooth leather and suede. It works across all of them, which means one bottle looks after your whole rack rather than a different spray for every pair.
Why choose Collonil Carbon Lab Protecting Spray?
- Genuinely breathable protection. The invisible film repels water and dirt but still lets moisture escape, so your feet stay comfortable and your trainers never feel like they are wrapped in plastic.
- Aerosol-free formula. With no propellant gas you can spray indoors near an open window, and it is a more responsible choice for the planet.
- Suitable for every material. Smooth leather, suede, nubuck, canvas, mesh and knit — one spray protects your entire trainer collection.
- Keeps colours looking fresh. By blocking staining agents before they reach the fabric, whites stay whiter and bright colours stay vivid for far longer.
- Trusted Carbon Lab technology. Collonil’s sneaker-focused range is engineered around the demands of contemporary footwear rather than old-fashioned leather boots.
How to use Collonil Carbon Lab Protecting Spray
- Make sure your trainers are clean and completely dry before you begin.
- Hold the bottle roughly 25cm away from the shoe.
- Spray an even, light layer across the whole surface, including the seams and the toe.
- Allow the trainers to dry naturally, away from direct heat such as a radiator.
- For brand-new trainers I recommend a second coat once the first has dried, to build up a really robust barrier.
Haico’s tip: Reapply after every few wears, or whenever water stops beading on the surface. A ten-second spray on a Sunday evening saves you a lot of scrubbing later in the week — protecting is always easier than cleaning, and it is how your favourite trainers stay looking new for years rather than months.

Frequently asked questions
Will it change the colour of my trainers? No. Applied correctly in thin layers it dries completely invisible and leaves no marks. As always, I suggest a quick test on a hidden spot first if you are unsure about a delicate material.
How often should I reapply? Every two to three weeks with regular wear, or sooner if your trainers are out in heavy rain a lot. When water no longer beads up on the surface, it is time for a fresh coat.
Can I use it on suede trainers? Absolutely. It is one of the safest ways to protect suede and nubuck, which stain very easily without a barrier in place.
