Description

Burgol Shoe Pomade Dark Brown 037 – handmade Swiss shoe cream that feeds the leather and puts the colour back.

Burgol has been making shoe care in Switzerland since 1921, and the pomade is still produced by hand in small batches. It is a mixed emulsion rather than a simple wax paste, which is a slightly technical way of saying it carries both water and oil phases – and that is what allows it to penetrate properly instead of sitting on the surface. If you have only ever used supermarket polish, the first time you work this dark brown shoe pomade into a decent pair of shoes is something of a revelation.

The formula is built on carnauba wax and beeswax with essential oils, natural colour pigments and moisturising oils. The waxes give protection and a warm shine, the oils keep the hide supple so it does not crack along the flex lines, and the pigment reactivates colour that has washed out of scuffed toe caps and heels. Shade 037 is a proper dark brown, deep enough for espresso and chocolate calf without tipping into black.

Why choose Burgol Shoe Pomade?

  • Handmade in Switzerland since 1921. A family firm that has never moved to industrial production. You can feel the difference in the texture the moment you open the tin.
  • A mixed emulsion, not just wax. It carries moisture and oil deep into the leather rather than glazing over the top, which is why it works so well on shoes that have been neglected.
  • Natural pigments that genuinely reactivate colour. Faded areas come back to life instead of being polished around.
  • Carnauba and beeswax with essential oils. Protection and shine from the waxes, suppleness from the oils, and no cheap fillers.
  • The shades can be mixed. Burgol makes fifteen colours and they blend with each other, so you can tune a shade to an awkward brown. That is unusual and genuinely useful.

How to use Burgol Shoe Pomade

  1. Remove the laces and brush the shoes. A horsehair brush over the whole upper lifts dust from the welt, the eyelet rows and the seams.
  2. Clean if they need it. If there is a heavy build-up of old polish, take it back with a leather cleaner and let the shoes dry fully.
  3. Take a small amount on a cloth or dauber. Wrap a soft cotton cloth around a finger, or use an applicator brush. A little goes a long way with a cream this rich.
  4. Work it in with circles. Spread a thin, even layer across the upper. Pay attention to the toe cap, the heel counter and the creases across the vamp, which is where colour disappears first.
  5. Do not forget the welt and the edge. A dauber brush gets pigment right into the stitching channel and along the sole edge, and it makes an enormous difference to how sharp the shoe looks.
  6. Let it absorb. Ten to fifteen minutes at room temperature is plenty.
  7. Buff to a shine. A polishing brush or a clean cloth, brisk strokes. The friction warms the waxes and brings up a soft, deep shine with no greasy residue left behind.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the pomade and Burgol shoe wax?

The pomade is the nourishing step: it carries moisture, oils and pigment into the leather and keeps it supple. The wax is the finishing step: it sits on the surface and builds gloss. Use the pomade regularly and the wax when you want a high shine on the toe caps. If you only buy one, buy the pomade – leather needs feeding far more than it needs shining.

How often should I use it?

For shoes in regular rotation, roughly every ten to fifteen wears, or once a month. Overloading leather with cream is a real thing – the pores clog and the shine goes dull. A thin coat applied properly beats a thick one every time.

Is 100ml a lot?

It is a good deal more than most premium creams offer, and because you only need a fingernail-sized amount per shoe, a tin will last a single pair for years. It is one of the reasons the Burgol pomade works out very reasonably despite being handmade.

Where can I buy Burgol Shoe Pomade in the UK?
