Avel Special Textiles – invisible protection for the fabrics you love
Fabric is lovely to live with, but it stains all too easily — a spilled drink, muddy paws, everyday grime. Avel Special Textiles is a colourless fabric protector spray that forms an invisible, breathable barrier over textiles and upholstery, so spills bead up on the surface instead of soaking straight in. It gives you those precious extra seconds to blot a spill before it becomes a stain.
Avel is a name I trust for furniture and textile care, and this generous 500ml spray is made for the bigger jobs around the home. Crucially, it protects without changing the colour, look or feel of the fabric — the material stays exactly as it should, just far better defended against daily life.
Protecting fabric is all about buying yourself time. An untreated textile drinks a spill in seconds, and by the time you have fetched a cloth the stain has already set into the fibres. A protector spray changes that maths entirely: the liquid beads on the surface and sits there long enough for you to blot it away cleanly. On family sofas, dining chairs and anything in daily use, that head start is the difference between a quick wipe and an expensive professional clean. The trick is to treat fabric while it is still new or freshly cleaned, before the first accident happens — prevention is always easier than rescue, and a light, even coat now saves a great deal of worry and expense later on.
Why choose Avel Special Textiles?
- Repels water and stains: liquids and grime sit on the surface rather than soaking in, so spills are easier to wipe away.
- Invisible and colourless: it keeps the natural look, colour and feel of your fabric intact.
- Breathable protection: the barrier guards the fibres without leaving a stiff or sticky finish.
- Generous 500ml size: plenty for sofas, chairs, cushions and larger textile surfaces.
- Everyday defence: ideal for busy households, family furniture and anything that sees regular use.
I recommend applying it to newly cleaned upholstery, and to new fabric furniture before the first accident happens — prevention really is the easy path here.
How to use Avel Special Textiles
- Make sure the fabric is clean and dry before you begin.
- Test on a small, hidden area first to check compatibility and colour fastness.
- Shake the can well, then hold it a short distance from the surface.
- Spray an even, light coat across the whole area, working in a well-ventilated space.
- Allow it to dry fully — the protection develops as it cures — and apply a second light coat for heavier-use items.
My personal tip: reapply after you next deep-clean the fabric, or periodically on high-use pieces. Protection wears down gradually with use and cleaning, so an occasional refresh keeps the barrier working.

Frequently asked questions
Will it change the colour of my fabric? No. It is colourless and designed to leave the look, colour and feel of the textile unchanged.
How long does the protection last? It gradually wears down with use and cleaning, so I recommend reapplying after each deep clean or periodically on well-used items.
Should I test it first? Yes, always. A quick test on a hidden area confirms it suits your particular fabric before you treat the whole piece.
